We decided tonight that we couldn't wait any longer to put our mature male A avic in with our recently acquired female A avic.....and bingo we had a hookup. It took the male about 5 minutes to coax the female out of her hide and then another minute to get in position. The then stayed hooked up for about 3-4 minutes with an almost constant barrage of insertions. After he was done it actually took him almost a minute or two to push her back so that he could make his escape. I am actually impressed that he got away because she is twice his size.

This was our first attempt at this and I plan on putting these two together until he becomes a meal or she becomes noticeably gravid...does this make sense?

good deal, and yes, I'd keep mating them as long as she'll let him.
Since they are both yours it might not be as much of an issue if she munches him...

How often? Does he need to make a sperm web between each encounter? or should I just leave him in the same enclosure and hope for the best since I know that we at least on 'solid' hookup?

either way should be fine. I've not bred A avic, but there are quite a few here that have, and have had luck with cohabitation too. If you decide to go that route, then they may or may not mate between sperm webs. If you separate them, make sure he's made another one, or wait a week or so to reintroduce them.
If she seems receptive, and you've got enough room for them, I'd leave him in if it were me (but then again, I'm lazy!)
