{D {D {D My G.aureo molted for the first time! OMG! OMG! OMG:D :D

This is SO cool! Last night, she seemed a bit sluggish, and this morning when I peeked into her hide (which is large and roomy), there she was on her back all quiet and still, stretching a leg slowly. I think she must have just completed her molt. I can see her exuvia (sp??) farther back in her cave but it will have to wait until she is up and moving.

I can't wait to see her when she is all fluffed up and rolled over and back on her 8 legs again!!

OMG:D :D This is better than drugs:D (well...most of them...). I feel like handing out cigars, or buying her her first pierced earrings or a cellphone or something!

And---what a blast---this happens on a REGULAR basis??! I'm in heaven!!!

(I know...I need to get a life, right?)

no matter how many times I've watched mine molt I have never gotten tired of it, same thing with watching my snakes shed.

A life renewed

Yes, when a snake sheds or a T. molts, there is that profound (at least to me) and visceral demonstration of the effort and the beauty of a life transformed and renewed. I'll jump in and be corny here: such actions are holy---a resurrection in the natural world where all things are fresh, enlarged, and glistening.

post molt

Well, this has been a longer event than I thought! She has been pretty much wrapped up in the remains of her exuvia for all of yesterday. All I could see where legs going everywhere, in a variety of colors.

This morning, she has showed up at the door of her "cave." Her "old-self" is still pressed against the back of her cave, and she is sitting dead still in a legs-together crouch. I think she is still hardening, or puffing up, or whatever they do. Her front legs are all coffee-brown with gold stripes. Her back legs are a pale soft green with vanilla stripes.

What bothers me is her abdomen. It is really small! Will it puff up??? (someone please respond, 'cause I'm starting to bite my nails over this one:eek:  )

I'm dying to fish the exuvia out of her cave, but doing so will disturb her, so I'll just wait and wait for now.

Whew, this molting thing is exhausting!! I feel like I just went through two days of labor:eek:

She'll be fine until you feed her. Usually their abdomens are much smaller after a molt. No need to worry, she sounds perfectly fine. ^_^

Her exuvium

I finally got her exuvium out of her hide yesterday. I was in pretty good shape, so I mounted it all up and posted a picture of it in the T. discussions... section.

She is still settling in to her new skin. Kicked hairs at me for the first time ever when I snuck in and pulled out her molt.

Yes, I agree, molting is a hairy-scary time.

Congratulations!!!!!!!! Its so exciting, isn't it? Don't worry, many T's loose weight after a moult, you just need to feed her as soon as she dries. She will be hungry!! Moulting takes a lot of energy, so feed and water her well!!

Oh yeah!

thats VERY exciting!..........in idaho. jk.
Are you making an Idaho joke there? Cuz that could be trouble. We might throw a potato at you. Lots of exciting things happen here. Like wide stances, Evil Kneivel, cow tipping, lentils, and . . . I can't think of anything else. You suck! (j/k)!!!!!!

(congrats on the molt, it is always amazing to see)
