So I've got this stunning and HUGE female Malaysian Green that was nice enough to give me a surprise eggsac. She's been a great mom for a few weeks now but I'm getting a little worried (and excited) because that sac is starting to bulk up noticeably.

I know it's time to pull the sac or I'll have a baby huntsman explosion in her cage which I don't want. It looks like she's got her fangs in the sac...that's how she grips it.

SO how would you experienced guys recommend I go about this?

How do I wrestle the sac away from her??

Phew!

Okay, so I just manned up and decided to go in after the sac. Let me tell you, I've had easier wrestling matches against my bulldog. I used a pair of 18" locking hemostats and gently clipped onto a good portion of the sac she was holding in her mouth. I also used a spray bottle and a small ultralight 24" snake hook which came in very handy.

Then the battle began. For well over 12 minutes she would not let go...My arms were aching from holding the hemostats in awkward positions trying to prevent her from twisting away with the sack. It was like fighting a blue marlin but after a few attempts to unhook her fangs from the sac with a small hook she finally let go and ran. I feel really bad because she's obviously not happy right now.

The sac looks great...really plump and no visible major tears. The silk casing in UNBELIEVABLY strong. I swore it would tear during our tug of war but only has some very superficial damage. I'm going to manually incubate it and I'll try to snap some pics.

very awesome spider at that, congrats on the sac, you can put a cricket in there also for her to eat (take her mind off the sac ordeal) that's what i do when i remove an eggsac from 1 of my spiders, and they always go to eat the cricket, heh it's like their saying" ahhh!!! my babiesssssssss........oooh cricket yummy, sac? what sac?"{D

I got home today and looked at the sac which was laid on 8/28 and it looked significantly larger than just a few days ago...I couldn't help myself.

I used two foreceps to rip open the sac (thank god) and an undulating wave of FAST huntsman slings came pouring out of the sac!

{D

Man...talk about teleportation abilities!!
Did I mention these little suckers are FAST!

Um...WOW! That is a LOT of slings. And I thought widows had a lot. Good luck with those.

Thing is...in that picture it looks like they are all on the inside of the lid but there's a thick chain of spiderlings all the way down the container...soooo many.

They are about 1/8 inch...not a bad size. And way more than widows!!!

Now comes the next hurdle...anyone wanna help me separate slings?

Here's mom...

Yeah, I think I have a few too many.
I will be posting them in the FS section once I get them separated and feeding...

how are these things doing?
They are doing really well. A few have kicked it but the others are fattening up on fruit flies and pinheads and I've even seen a group feeding on an incapacitated 1/4 cricket. I haven't seen as much cannibalism as I thought, not like some Latrodectus I'm used to.
