Well I've been away from the house most of the day here lately. I came home to notice my blondi had molted. The molt was successfull, didnt look like there where any problems during the molt. Today she was out and about, so i decided to get some pics. There is a weird spot now on her urticating hair patch. Looks almost as if peat is stuck to it, or even as if someone burned her with a cigarrette, which didnt happen. Just wondering if anyone has encountered anything similar to this.

Other than this she looks great, and there are no signs that she had gotten stuck in the exuvium to have caused this.

Sorry, that’s nasty!

I would be tempted to put triple antibiotic cream on that. What do I know though I’m not a vet with T experience.

I should also note that there is no fluid leaking from the area at all. Nor is there any fluid leaking from any other area.

Ive noticed with my blondi (who is the weirdest thing alive) that her urticating hair patch is "Fluffy" looking. Like dried peat for lack of a better discription. But boy howdy it does a number one me when she flicks. UGH
I think yours is ok. Those pics are kinda hard to tell.

Yeah she didnt want to cooperate too much on moving so i could get close enough to get a really good shot. Her moving is fine and everything, shes rather alert at the moment. I guess only time will tell, but hopefully she does ok.

Have to agree with jbrd. Mine has the same "fluffy" patch.
Dont think you should worry

Seen it. Had it. Got over it. Blondi and apophysis alike, both have had them in my room. This is nothing to worry about. The name of it is slipping from me. I keep wanting to call it an ulcer (might be it). It doesn't matter. It is nothing to worry about. These genrally go away in a few molts. It will shrink, shrink, look like a birth mark, then go away.

Im quite new to Ts(dont have one yet, maybe one day) and I had no idea what species T.blondii was, till I googled, and then I discovered This is considered to be the largest spider in the world!

Specimens that have 12 inch legspan have been recorded and several specimens are in the Guiness Book Of Records.
Dr. Bustard recently tried to enter the record books with a T. blondi that was, he claimed the heaviest in the world.
(see here for details and a picture!)

Like the Selenocosmia crassipes (Whistling/Barking spider from Australia) these giants can also make sounds

That is a weird thing really..mine after molt, the abdominal hairs grew back as expected, but suddenly, the bald spot enters the scene with no major reason or even bother her...???!

oddmoult, abdomen damage info

I had a 3rd moult T.apophysis shed its skin, it all seemed fine except there was a large area at the top of the abdomen which appeared like it has a 'hernia' underneath, the skin was thin and bulged, as the spider fed the bulge got very large and thin skin actually ruptured and I guessed that was the end for that spider. A scab formed over the split which was quite large, across the top half of the abdomen. I knew the next moult would be critical. It did moult and the wound was healed with bald skin, over subsequent moults the hairs regrew but there was always a scar and the abdomen seemed a little twisted but the spider behaved like any other, she got to full adult size before dying at the hand of a spider sitter whilst I was living abroad.

weird abdomen ps

regarding the damaged T.apophysis abdomen i didnt in any way intervene, i just let the spider feed and drink as normal and left it to its own devices, I believe any attempt to apply cream would have resulted in its demise, a decent scab built up on its own.
