I got a 1" GBB and 1" OBT slings from Paul Becker yesterday.
I was doing the re-housing and the GBB's went smoothly.

The OBT was in a scared pose with its legs over his head and I had an "aww" moment. Next thing I know I touched one of his legs to coax him into his new enclosure when he bolted like the Flash
1) out of his deli cup
2) out of his new enclosure
3) out onto the 5 gallon tank I had as a last catch all

He rested inside one of the corners of the tank and it took me about 20 minutes to get him into his new home, and about 2 hours for my nerves to settle .

This is my first OBT and you guys were not kidding when you said they were fast!!! He practically teleported from one place to the other.
I'm just glad I had his new home into the tank in case this happened :D
Do they slow down as they get bigger or are they speed demons for life?
:D

Lol, I might get an OBT and the only thing I'm worried about is its speed... and my Brachy seems pretty fast.

There is fast, and then there is OBT fast. Even my poor little 5 legged dude can run super speed. They are so fast you dont have time to react! He is something like 3", and has yet to slow down. Not that this helps you, but I am sure, once big enough, they will develop a bit more fight, rather then flight, attitude.

Congrats on the new additions..

The OBT is super fast at 3.5 inches.. I packed my first OBT a little while back and WOW!! I tried the bathtub trick needless to say it ran up the walls..

in my experience, they get faster as they get bigger. i took my female out once for her to walk around  big mistake, when she literally teleported across the floor, across my hand, and up the wall at ridiculous speeds. i cupped her immediately and put her back in her tank. that was after i placed my heart back in my chest of course :D

Yeah, I would say they get faster as they mature. I find the males are more prone to bolt than the females. Depends on personality on how quick they are to bolt. But all specimens will eventuly and some times frequently show you why there speed demons;P

Oh wow!
Thanks guys, it's good to know what to expect with my orangey speed racer.

I saw on another post the perfect name for him/her.

Its name will be OBT Kenobi :)

Yes, I'm a geek :D

LOL, I haven't had to many problems with my female, but I bought her as an adult so I have no experiance with OBT slings. I did however have a 2.5" (maybe bigger) P. regalis bolt during a rehousing, I was doing the tub trick and it did three laps around the rim then shot up the wall, I was nervous cupping her because I was shaking so much! I didn't want to hurt her.

OW's are notorious speed-demons, from slings to adults. You may not see adults running laps that often, but they can cover a much greater ground in a shorter amount of time than slings can. Yet, slings seem to have longer duration on their bursts of speed than adults do....but adults WILL stand their ground if they feel they are unable to run, or are sufficently startled from the get.

I agree, I'll take a threat display over a runner any day! lol

Aidan was a speed demon when he was little.. the first time I opened his deli cup, I had it in a 10g tank... I blinked, and.. where the heck did he go!? lol he was up under the lip on the top of the 10g! After that, I kept nets and catch cups a lot closer at hand. At 2" he threw his first thread display, and then would bolt out of nowhere and run laps around the large KK he was in. The last time I rehoused him, he didn't try to bolt or throw threat displays, but I also didn't let him go anywhere.. I got a net on him as soon as I could.

In conclusion.. have fun living with a mini Nascar racer lol

Nets are the best!

The last time I bought one, was the same time I got a 2g tank for Aidan and some fake plants for slings... the lady asked what sorta fish was goin in the tank, and I told her an OBT. She said she'd never heard of that, and asked what it looked like.. I told her it was orange and had 8 legs. She just gave me a super weird look and didn't ask any more questions LOL

well, scientific names are better here anyways. ;) however, I dissagree, my T. gigas is fast, but no where near Pokie fast or OBT fast.
