I personally don't think they are, but a lot of folks bought into the hype and paid way too high of prices for them. They're a very average Pokie to be demanding 6X the price of a regalis.

Hah yeah, my thoughts entirely. I totally agree there, I just didn't want to word it as bluntly, due to a lot of my recent posts being kind of 'negative' :)

worse!
my metallica's were freshly molted, what better tiome to make some pics? and where can you make better pics than in the garden, with true light? so i took one metallica with me, and opened the lid. the little critter took of, on the tub, off the tub, on my hand and ....... of my hand into the garden!! it took me 1/4 hour to find it again (and some years of my live!)
so i'll never photograph another metallica outside ever again!!

I think I would have had a heart attack if my 400 dollar spider decided it wanted to live in the garden for a while.......

I also think the mirandas are overrated. But pokies are cool in general.

Monopolly...

Yes, it's true that the Miranda's really aren't THAT spectacular. They are very attractive looking to the eye. Prehaps a tad expensive for what they are. I hope no one ever dreams of paying the price of a Metallica for one. Speaking of wich, what do yall think of close to four-hundred for a P. Metallica sling? Is this reasonable, even with spectacular color taken in account, to charge THAT much? Or has the Pokie craze, as Deifiler
put it, turned into a "Fasion"? Is the insanely gross amount of money demanded by those who have P. Metallica morally correct?

I dunno....

Hey now let's not put the Miranda down. I have both and they both have unique qualities. Unfortunately my Miranda is hard to photograph since she won't hold still long enough for a pic. I can tell you this she is growing like a weed. I do have some new pics of my Metallica and will post them just as soon as I get feeling better and resize them.

POKES RULE:)

I wouldn't spend $400 on a metallica. I am hoping when they next batch gets put on the market there will be an opportunity to get some for a little cheaper price.

As far as the miranda go, they are absolutely gorgeous, not sure if they were worth the price but I am glad I got some and I can't wait to see them as adults.

Here's one of mine-

Kelly,
My My how your spider's grown. I got a couple Miranda's myself, one being male, the other looking just as awesome as yours!! May I say that your photo is one of the first to catch the true beauty of these spiders. As for "Miranda Bashing", by no means did I mean to imply that this spider isn't wonderful. I guess I was "Compraring and Contrasting" the two spiders. Like the price, wow factor, hype and so on. I love the Miranda!! I think the white banding on a dark blue with rust/red highlights makes and great display spider. I just wish I could get a Metallica with out the REDICULOUS price. It's kinda like "Can I keep my left arm then please?" What about a P.Metallica BOYCOTT to drive down prices? Just an idea, but why not. None of us want to pay that much, so lets do somthing about it. I don't think Metallica's should be any more expensive than the Miranda's. What's yall thoughts on the subject?

The thing that I can't wrap my mind around with the miranda is that while they are a very attractive pokie, they are still a very typical pokie. You put them side by side with something like a regalis or an ornata and it's the difference between say a B. smithi and a B. auratum. It's simply not distinctive enough to warrant the difference in price as far as I'm concerned.

As for the price of the metallica's, it's obscenely steep, but it is understandable. They are one of the most unique looking spiders in the trade, and they are *barely* in the trade. I can't convince myself to drop that kind of cash, but I am still far more understanding of why somebody drops $350+ on a P. metallica than $150 on a P. miranda. The first is a case if I had more money, I'd buy it in a heart beat, the second I would never pay that price for just on principle.
