Hi. My 3+" carolina wolfspider hasn't eaten in 3 weeks. What can be the problem? Could a molt be coming up? I have seen this spider stretch like 3 3/4" Still seems active and all. I just didn't know if these go on fasts at all. I would feed it 3 times a week and was an aggressive eater. Thanks. Craig.

I have never took care of any carolina wolfspider but recently took in a few orb weavers.

It's wild caught yes?

Hey Craig, I am unaware if this species fasts, but I'd guess they can since they are so closely related to Ts. It's either a molt or a fast. I'm guessing she could be gravid as well since she is WC.

How big is her abdomen? Because when they are gravid usually when they stop eating, atleast in Ts, it means that they will lay soon.

The abdomen is big but that may be normal. How long would they stop eating before they lay? That would be cool having baby carolina wolfspiders:D

I don't know it's hard to say, could be a couple days to a couple weeks. I sure hope she lays for you, cause I'd love to get some of the babies:rolleyes: , but don't get your hopes up just in case.

hmmm, i had a very large hogna for awhile. wild caught. she never molted in 7 months (course she was huuuuge to begin with) then one day she stopped eating. died about 2 weeks later, just curled up and died. made me sad:(

is the abdomen on your female getting fatter than normal? mine never fasted, just ate like a starving demon:evil: if the abdomen is getting a little bigger than normal, don't get your hopes up, but there might be a sac, or a molt i guess. maybe they fast right before a molt like T's. maybe someone who's had a large female molt in their care can help a little more.

oh- and you should post a pic:drool:

I'm going to make some speculations here. First assuming you have had the spider a month or so. In the wild it's eat as much as you can while you can because you never know how long it will be till you get the chance again.

So maybe after you introduced a steady supplie of food it disrupted this cycle and at first it ate everything it could but now slowed down because of the mass amount of food avalible.

Pure speculation
