Not all Aphonopelma are slow growing.

I received this girl on the 25th of March (she was an unnoticed freebie so she sat in her vial until the 20th of April when I went to use the box for another shipments.....see this link for the story). Anyway, she's molted twice since then. She was shipped in a 1 oz deli cup the one in the picture is the base of a 2 oz deli cup. She's grown a bit.

Here she is now:

Here she was on the 20th of April after 1 month in a 1oz. deli cup.:

aphonoplelma sp

Looks like a Flagstaff Orange or maybe New river rust rump....more like the Flagstaff Orange I think. These are probably just a variant of A.Chalcodes....at least a lot of us here in Arizona think this is the case with this spider. Notice the red/rust color on the rump.....most A.Chalcodes are more blond on the rump. Here is a photo of a "Flagstaff Orange"....I have one though that is not as Orange as the one in this pic it is like yours....take a look....
OK...here is a pic of Aphonopelma sp "New River Rust Rump".....
Many of the experts say these two spiders are one and the same and many of us suspect they are A.Chalcodes....one day we will know.

Yeah but until a bit more work is done on Aphonopelma, I'm going to keep locality specific lines. Just to be safe. Though it does look a lot like some of my other Aphonopelma species, it will only be bred with those from its mountain.

Both of the spiders I have are very, very fast spiders.

Jmugleston- Thanks for posting a link to that story! I haven't been on the boards that long, so I hadn't seen that thread. Awesome! I once had a B.emilia that was in the mail for over a month, it was a sub-adult so it didn't molt during that period though.:)

So are you referring to speed or growth rate? I'm guessing growth rate? I have an A. sp. "Flagstaff orange" sling hopefully he isn't to slow a grower, I don't really have that kind of patience. {D The T in your pics is just such a cutie!

Very cool. I've got a male A. species "payson". I've had him for 6 years with no molts. He's only 3". Poor guy.

I should have been more clear. Sorry, I'm referring to the growth rate. All my Aphonopelma are calm....except my new A. anax, they're OBTs in A. anax clothing and A. seemanni are skittish. I meant slow growing though. Most Aphonopelma take their time growing up. This girls is sprouting like she's in a hurry.

Fixed the title so it says slow growing now. That's what I was referring to. When a roach is in the cage, these guys spring on them just as fast as the others.

growth is real slow.....speed really fast! My Flagstaff Orange has sealed herself up in her burrow and has not had food or water going on 4 months now and she seems ok....very weird.
