No G. pulchra egg sac for me this year

::::sigh:::::

I bred her last year and we had one good mating and the 2nd attempt ended up with the male as dinner.

Found her belly up this morning after she stopped eating and spent a couple weeks moving dirt out from one corner of the cage and then spent the past 2-3 days laying down a LOT of webbing all over the cage. When she molted last year she did not go off feed, did not do any rearranging and laid no noticeable web down so I was hoping all this activity was a good sign that she was maybe going to do a sac.

and a nice close up of the fangs.

Sorry, that really is disappointing.
Hope you have better luck on the next go 'round. ;)

She's a beautiful girl, though!

The title of the thread suggests me to ask this: did you previously had a sac from G. pulchra?

No, but she is a wild caught female so it would be reasonable to think she has laid a sac before. I did have a G. pulchra breeding group set up several years back (was just waiting for the male to mature) but that got all derailed when someone in the house went nuts with ant spray in the kitchen one day when I wasn't home and they didn't close the vents to my room... lost all of my adult and juvenile spiders. The only survivors were a couple of tiny slings still in small vials. It's taken me all that time to rebuild my collection to the point of finally being able to breed some of them.

Maybe you'll have better luck next time. I'll be wanting to breed them as well, in the long run. If I'd ever get a sac I think I'd selfishly and shamelessly keep all the slings. :D :eek:
OK, maybe I'd give one to crpy.

It's a shame to have such high hopes and see them dashed, esp after waiting so long. Better luck next time.

Molting was successful. Looks like it went smoothly. Of COURSE I missed it because I had to take my car out for an emissions inspection and she waited till I left to take it all off. :wall:

I did get some after molt shots. She was still cringing in the corner so I didn't want to poke her to get her to stretch out for me for some really good shots... I'll wait till later for those.

Sorry about the breeding... but at least you have a shiny new girl ready to go now... are you going to find another male for her? The native tarantulas around here are breeding like crazy... seems like it might be a good time...
