No drinking cause to worry?

We just got a A avic from our LPS yesterday, and I posted with pictures. Anyways, she's really dehydrated and her abdomen is very small. I want to get it blown up so she looks a little healthier. However, she's in premoult I'm pretty sure as she's missing some hair and underneath its very dark. Blackish' bluish.

She's got plenty of water, but hasn't seemed interested in drinking anything. Should this be cause for concern? I'm nervous about her being so thin and being in premoult. I'm also nervous about her not being interested in drinking. Hopefully it's just a time issue and I need to wait but I thought I'd check in with you more experienced people for some ideas on my best course of action.

Thanks!

PS: going to see if she's interested in crickets later...I doubt she will be.

Did you mist the walls for her a bit? My avics have water bowls, but I've only ever seen them drink droplets off the wall.

Yes! I have...I live in a desert and her home was created weeks ago, so I injected the deep soil and misted the habitat as well. I have moss on my backdrop. If I get those real moist might she drink from that instead? I say that because right now she's hanging on the backdrop with her mouth over some moss...but I don't know if she's drinking. It just looks like she's sitting there.

I really wouldn't worry about her. Give her a bottle cap with water, mist her enclosure, & just leave her alone.

My avic came from a similar bad LPS situation, hasn't eaten, hasn't webbed yet, & hasn't moved a whole lot. I'm not worried at all. She may be doing things when i'm not looking. As long as she's clinging to the walls & not on the floor in a death curl, i'm assuming she's doing exactly what she needs to be doing :)

are you sure that she is in pre-molt? you could try to feed her to be sure. i suggest you drop a little criquet in her tank for an hour or two, perhaps she will take it.

If a black butt underneath where some abdomen hair is any indication, I do think she's in premoult. That's why I'm worried...can a T with a tiny butt molt ok?

That said, I just came home with some big juicy crickets, and she's shown NO interest at all. I held the cricket next to her mouth and she just constantly moved away. I'll keep her with some water in her bowl and mist the sides every other day until she does something...and keep offering crickets here and there I guess.

Can anybody tell me if a small butt can still molt just fine? That's my big worry...she's well housed, I'm just concerned with her small size and black color.

Thanks!

I've heard of "small butts" surviving a molt. As long as you're misting it and have a water bowl filled then you're doing all you can. Stop worrying.

I would recommend making sure she has water, and keeping some of the substrate damp/misting and leaving her alone. Offer food weekly, remove if uneaten in 24 hrs. She is still settling in, she could go awhile without eating and being a larger specimen, if she is in fact in pre-molt, could be so for quite some time. Give her time to settle and don't bother her too much.

Mine just decided to web some while I was at work tonight. I bought her last Tues or Wed & moved her into her nice new enclosure Sunday morning.

Sometimes they just take a little time to settle in :)

I'm starting to feel better. Thanks for the encouragement guys. She's been so lethargic and refused food twice today. I'll wait for a moult and keep fresh water, offering food weekly.
