Just in time for HalloweenHello everyone.
I just joined to share this nine-eyed freak I found last night. I searched all over and cannot find mention of a wolf spider having 9 eyes or any type of extra eye mutation/defect. Thoughts??? View attachment 362277 View attachment 362278
Welcome to the club. We've got (straight) jackets. As it turns out, I like this forum, so I’ll have to stick around
Welcome! You're off to a good start here and fortunate to have one of the best vendor/hobbyists in your state. Be careful with Hurricane Delta approaching.I didn't notice the oddity until I was post editing. I just had to share the pic with someone and decided it’d be best to share with folks that appreciate spiders. So, I googled “Arachnid Forum”. As it turns out, I like this forum, so I’ll have to stick around! lol
Also, thanks for the kind complements! I’m fairly new to photography (~2 years), so it’s always good to know I’m in the right path! I have quite a few spider photos I’ll have to share with you all.
Yes, they have very good eyesight, but mutations like this can happen randomly. Maybe the extra eye isn't functional. I once saw a photo of a jumping spider with the two big frontal eyes fused so it looked almost like a cyclops.Correct me if I am wrong on this, but since wolf spiders are hunting with their good eye sights, having more eyes would more helpful for this specific spider? In assumption of that those extra eyes work very well.
Interesting.That's awesome!
Did you find her near a nuclear powerplant?
