well i am getting a nile monitor with in the next few weeks and ive done my research. but i just wanted to ask for more info and words of advise from the more experienced. all advise is apprediated..thank you
well... i have a nile that ive raized for a little over a year. when i got him he was only about a foot. now 14 months later he is 4 feet long. and in a cage that litteraly takes up half of a room.. in another year i will need a bigger cage.
i took a few videos of him. and his cage set up and have them on my youtube (see signature)
having a nile is allot of work and there are alot of other monitors out there that make MUCH better pets. Niles arent sociable animals. even getting one to be reasonable is a acomplishment.. actually building trust with one and tameing one down is RARE and most people just dont pull it off.. expessialy if it is your first monitor.
if your not totaly set on a nile there are a few others i would recomend. ackies are by far the best first choice for a monitor. rough necks are pritty relaxed.. savannahs are always popular but again housing them properly takes allot of money and space..
if you are set on a large species of monitor but want somthing you can handle i recomend black throats. they are like a overgrown savannah with better collors..
