Nice spider from Asia

It only moulted last week, it hasn't eaten yet. Note the tumour on the abdomen. It almost looks like the arachnid equivalent of a hernia. It was there before the moult and hasn't healed at all.

I know what the previous owner thinks it is, and part of me thinks he's right. But another part of me thinks he's wrong.

looks a wee little like haplopelma schmidi(dark form) could be wrong though:eek:

Hi,

i saw this animal last week :D. I think at the moment it's not sure what it is. Let's wait for the next papers about asian spiders. I think than we know more!

Aren't Haplopelma hainanum and Haplopelma schmiditi (dark form) nearly identical? I think you'll need to view the spermethecae for a positive I.D.

So you did!
I'm still not convinced either way - the more I look at it, the more it doesn't look like what I thought it was.

Hopefully Lee can send me the skin next week
