Well, after Ernie shamelessly posted a pic of his on a different thread, I find myself wanting to not only add another spider to my list of spiders to get, but to add it to the top of the list.

Any info on this species and pics would greatly be appreciated.

Jon,
Good choice bro.
I keep mine in a large kritter keeper. It has a hide it never uses.
A 5" wide x 1" deep water dish. It does'nt burrow at all.
It just hangs out looking good. It eats like theres no tomorrow.
She took 5 crickets yesterday at once.
Shes a little skiddish and wont be held, at least by me.
She had a chance to tag me one night when I touched her butt while showing off, but all she did was tap my hand pretty hard. No fangs.:8o My showoff days are over now, at least with her.
When I bought her I didn't know what she was about at all. I just thought it looked good, and the price was right. She was aprox. 2 1/2", she at least 6" now, and its only been a year. I can't believe how fast she grows. Of course 5 crics. at once helps.:}

Thats all I know..

Nhandu are fast becoming a favorite of mine, great new world looks with a bit of the old world charm in their attitude. I need to find some vulpinus slings, they were around last summer and I passed them up, doh!

They are the last entry on Swifty's site. I am debating if the temperatures out here in the desert have cooled off enough for me to order one.

Aren't Nhandus fairly closely related to Acanthoscurrias? Both seem to carry a very regal body structure -- old world in the carapace and legs and new world in the abdomen?

Speaking of Nhandu, I remember talk of a "Hi White" form of coloratovillosus? I never hear of it anymore. Anyone have any info on this?

I've seen those but they're juvies - when possible I like to start off with smaller slings. I'm pretty fascinated by watching tarantulas grow from tiny spiderlings. If you couldn't get small spiderlings my collection would be a 10th the size it is.

Still, I've been eyeing Swifty's web page lately, we'll see :)

I have a 4" female N. vulpinus. She was slightly banded like a blonde coloratovillosum when she was smaller, but she has progressively lost the banding. She, like the other Nhandu spp. I keep, is a fast growing aggressive feeder. I have found some of my other Nhandus to be defensive, but I would describe my N. vulpinus as skittish so far.

Is this what you're talking about:
http://www.birdspiders.com/archive/3/2007.htm ? The light form is a naturally occurring color morph but I don't know if there are any in the U.S. market.

I have N. vulpinus, N. carapoensis, and N. colloratovillosus. The colloratovillosus has been growing the fastest out of all of them and the vulpinus the slowest. The vulpinus and colloratovillosus are 2" and the carapoensis is 1"+. So far no defensiveness...just a tad skittish...can't wait til they get bigger, especially the vulpinus!

I have two little (1/4" and 3/4") N. cerradensis. Anybody else keeping these guys? John Hoke told me to keep them on the dry side. I keep them fairly dry but once a week I spray a lot of water into their vials. One is growing like crazy, while the other just seems to stay the same even though they are from the same clutch.

You probably have a male and female then =)...just don't mate them....

I found this tidbit at redwineexotics.com:

http://www.redwineexotics.com/moretarantulas17.html

Nhandu vulpinus
Brazilian Giant Blonde

N vulpinus is and attractive arboreal species. They have nice banding on the legs and a nice metallic bronze wash to them. They are not as fuzzy as some of the Nhandus such as the carapoensis.

Arborial? Phil?

Jon

Ernies sure does look fuzzy.

Honestly don't know how the hell I typed arborial instead of terrestrial there. Musta been late that night as i can assure you they have always been terrestrial from what I have seen of mine.

Glad ya noticed that though as I thought I had caught all the typos and such. :)
