or just aerodynamic!

I just watched my 1.25 inch N. coloratovillosus snatch up a cricket off the substrate while remaining on the side of the container...It stretched itself like an inch to get it, while remaining on the side of the container! I couldn't believe it and couldn't believe that it got the cricket without missing. And now it's chowing down still on the side of the container. Weird. Usually they do their feeding dance and twirl around on terra firma, but I guess not this time. Scary predator tactic. {D

Man, you should see some Grammostola species around 2" take down crickets.

I remember my little Grammostola sp. 'Formosa' 2"ers would run over to the cricket, tackle it and roll around on the ground with it before finally killing it. Looked like a minature footaball tackle happening in a deli cup!

Feeding is one of the more interesting aspects of T keeping, you've got to admit, but especially when they do something unique that makes you go "wow", you go spider! :p

When ours was just a 1/2" sling, we gave it a cricket a bit bigger than it (it's all we had at the time) and it jumped on the cricket immediately. Well, the cricket decided he wasn't having any of that and jumped out of the container...with the Nhandu still on it...
Well then our Nhandu was wrestling with this cricket on the ground, of course little Paddington Bear won the fight..it was amusing to say the least.
And Bliss, you're definitely right about the Gramms...we have a 2" pulchra and the cricket doesn't even have to touch the substrate and she's on it.

Hehe, I have a A. Geniculata that took a 180 degrees spin to surprise a cricket :D
Gotta love 'em ;)

lol they do some pretty crazy moves sometimes!

Watching my P. chordatus wrestle with mealworms is like what bliss described, too... a mini football tackle! And then she steps on various parts of it so it can't squirm.. she gets her legs in all sorts of weird spots and I'm sure she's going to fall over because she isn't using any of them for balance! lol
