I have one, possibly two habitats for a new pede(s). I have a large Puerto Rican that is somewhat disappointing in that I've only seen him a couple times in the 11 weeks I've had him. I know they are pretty secretive, though. Had a large Vietnamese that just died, never saw it either. I am leaning towards a S. heros since they are so attractive (see Bob's thread) and because of the dry conditions, which is less of a hassle. Based on other posts maybe my V was unhealthy when I got it, or at the very least just a woos, cause I never saw it either. I've heard they are burrowers (the P.R. sure is), but he never dug at all, just stayed under the hide, so maybe he was sick. Never seen either of them feed.

So, what would be a good large pede to get along with the heros if I want to see it do its thing a little more than my others? Species, that is, since I might get a sub-adult this time. Should I try another Vietnamese? A Haitian maybe?

Thx,
John

Gigantea maybe,.... to my own experience,... active specie.
Scolopendra subspinipes mutilans is to what i've heard also very active,.... i've only got pedelings of those,... but indeed quite active.

The jury is still out on this large Heros Arizonensis as being a good pet. Crazy pede has been living on the screen top for most on the 17 days I have owned it. I am not sure what her problem is.

I took her cage out side thinking the sun light would make her come down . I think she likes the sun...............go figure.
Al my other centipedes sleep in the day..............not this one.

You could always go with two S. heros: one castaneiceps and one arizonensis.

maybe a too small enclosure ?!?! - in my opinion, it looks very small for such a big pede.... AND i guess too high temperature as in the sun such a glass-enclosure becomes VERY hot and on the top your pede is looking for fresh air !?

I only took it outside long enough to take the photo. My camera does not work to good with flash. You do bring up a good point about cage size. It was not on the cage top this morning. I might need to move it to a larger home. This one kind of scares me when I open the top to feed!!!

Thanks

How about on it's side with the glass side on top.......That would make it mad...........

what do you guys think are the best measurements for pede-tanks?

i keep all of mine in tanks that are 1 x the pedes lenght in width and 2 x pedes lenght long and 1 x pedes height as height.
does this make sence :)

that sound's pretty good for me - i keep my pedes (the bigger ones) in tanks with 40x40x30cm resp. abt. 16x16x12 inches (for our american friends ;) ) and made good experiences with theses measurements.
But it's clear, a tank für Centipedes couldn't be too big at all !
