Tiger salamanders

I originally planned on pickup two or three only but when I got there and saw how big these guys were I couldn't resist. I ended buying five of the largest ones for $1 a piece :p . These guys ranged from 6 1/2-8" .

These are a little different from the ones I kept before. The spots on these guys are not as bold and big.

Anyways just got them home and they're still in their temporary home but all have eaten at least a cricket each already :p See for yourself in the following pics 8)

Love this coming up series, these guys act like they're Komodo dragons or something

Enjoy:

Sorry for so many pics.......I'm just tooo excited :embarrassed:

My other pickups

Picked up another three Society finches yesterday along with about 10 Hissing cockroaches.

Here's the three new ones

white cap male

crested male

darker crested male

Female hissing cockroack

I still can't get over at how big the salamanders were, expected them to be maybe half of that.:D

As for the crested finches first time I saw them, I actually thought they look funny but saw them again and just gotta have a few.

Cool, my dad and I used to catch tigers all the time here in Wisconsin when we lived at our old house. Yet most people never see them in the wild cause they're almost always underground. And they will get bigger than 8", I've heard of them reaching 1' and feeding on adult mice. ~ Rex

From what I read the tiger salamanders has never really been successfully bred in captivity. I'm pretty sure it can be done.

These guys were caught/found in them underground window sills or whatever they're called.

I have read they can reach 13" in length which is pretty amazing. And will usually only be seen after a heavy rain or something.

If anyone in the Twin cities area is interested in some, lady I bought it from still has half a dozen more but are a lot smaller in size. I took the biggest ones.:D

Nice! Too bad salamanders are rare in my country. I only have 3 fire bellied newts. (6 actually, 3 escaped!)

One time I found a tiger salamander in a gutter, along with a snapping turtle in Utah, the one I saw was about 5".

I was surprised at how big these guys are, the ones I caught couple of years ago were around 5" or so too.
