Feeding time again for these guys and man do they ever hammer the food down. The more time I spend around this species the more I truly love them and see why folks speak so highly of them.

enjoy

The mice are fuzzies if that helps put perspective on them. Womas come out of the egg pretty big.

Yeah, I knew they were fuzzies but they are still pretty big. About the size of my female sand boa. Maybe a bit bigger. What are yours, 18-20 inches???

Phil,
Hi..:)
You are officially my new idol.;) WOW! I didn't know you had Womas! My Holy Grail, of snakes, is a Black-Headed Woma. Hell, I'd take any Woma.
What are they like, temperament-wise?

Sorry missed the question. Haven't measured them but going on an eyeballs guess probably pushing 20 inches is about right.

Lori,
You are thinking black headed python= Aspidites melanocephalus.
The woma=Aspidites ramsayi. Two different snakes.

Very closely related but yes different. Blackheads get a good deal bigger and are a tad harder to breed and get feeding when hatched. Interesting side note Blackheads and Womas are the only Pythons without heat sensing pits. They are old snakes that were around before those evolved in the more modern ones.

Temper wise very very calm they simply don't bite. Not just mine but all Womas. Blackheads are also very calm.

Tell her to start saving the ol allowance cause they aren't cheap. :) Took me a while to be willing to drop that much per snake but I honestly have no rehrets as they are sooo worth it.

They are more docile than Corns, grow to a manageable size for pythons (6-9 feet), and are very hard to come by... they are quite expensive for the time being as well.... something like $1500-$2000 a pair.

Well 9 feet is a bit of a stretch. :) Blackheads can hit near that but Womas are 5 to 6 feet with a few going over 6 by a bit.

As to what makes em so good As was stated they are as docile as snakes get. They are easy to keep and breed. Up until a few years back they were super rare and even now not too many folks have them which is why the price ( although it has come down ) has remained stable for quite a while meaning you can actually make some decent coin with them. The babies eat right off the bat often before the 1st shed and they are problem free snakes. Demand is also high for them. They also have a unique personality being very alert and exploring whatever comes near them as well as having this habit of standing up real high to look around. Truthfully it can't be described but once you spend time around them you notice they don't behave like normal snakes.

And it isn't so much playing with the food as it is trying to eat without hanging onto it since they don't really constrict their prey but rather grab and smack it around similar to how some south american rat snakes eat.

Philip,
Those are really cool snakes and they sound like the perfect pet, not too big and a great disposition.
