I caught this guy tonight in my continued search for a Carolina wolf spider. My app says it's either a wolf spider (unspecified which kind) or a giant house spider. This is my first time seeing this kind of spider in my yard. I am curious as to what kind and am assuming it's a male. What do you guys think? Thanks again.

Looks female to me but I could be wrong. It’s a member of the genus Agelenopsis, known as grass spiders. They have a similar pattern to wolf spiders but these live in webs unlike most wolf spiders. Wolf spiders in the genus Sosippus live in a similar way to these guys

Yeah, I found out it was an Agelenopsis naevia right after I posted the thread lol. I didn't even find it near a web which through me off lol. Thanks for confirming guys. I did let it go last night after learning what kind it was.

Found this little guy in the upper corner of my daughter's bedroom. I'm assuming it's another type of grass spider. Sadly, my app keeps trying to call it a rabid wolf spider, which, I know it isn't. Just looking for confirmation and since it looks similar in body shape to the other one in this post, I thought this would be good place to ask instead of creating another post. Thanks again.

Adding to this thread again. I found some male wolf spiders, at least they look male, and my app is labeling them annexa tigrosas, but they don't look like other males I've seen and my app has been known to misidentify on occasion. Just curious if these are indeed male annexas or if they're possibly another species of tigrosa. I really like their coloration.

It looks like a male annexa to me. Do you have a pic of the males you find that don’t look like this?

Only these. All of the males I've seen have darker lines on their abdomen and the other color is brown. I'm wondering if these are just older males. The ones in my previous comment are fairly good size and I even found one a little bigger than those.

Good luck on your search! Hogna carolinensis is definitely on my wishlist of true spiders too
I actually did get one online. I still have yet to find one in my yard, though.
