I am a new to Tarantula's ...meaning really NEW! I just recieved my order, I was nervous and excited at the same time when opening the package! I am the new owner of a Female adult Rose hair and a juvinile unsexed rust rump new river :) they are beautiful!!

I was a little worried about the Rose Hair, she hadnt moved in hours, but last night she went to her water bowl, climbed the glass then headed in to her log :) I dropped a cricket in today, she seemed to shy away, almost as if she was afraid of it. The little one I call Marley (if she turns out to be a femal she stays Marley, if Male its Bob Marley) ate 3 small crickets yesterday, was really active and ducked into his log late last night and hasnt come out yet.

Congrats and welcome to the Tarantula world! Those are both great species for beginners. We'll look forward to pics of your sooner-than-you-think-collection of 20+ Ts! :D ;)

HaHaHa!!! Charlotte is what I named my first T.....and she's an adult female Rosie too!!!! (I thought of it first ;P j/k) Congrats and welcome to the addiction.

Why an addiction?? When that rosie doesn't eat, you'll find yourself buying T's "to eat her leftovers" (that was my excuse for getting 4 more little friends BTW)..then buying more crickets to keep up with the new T's...and more T's to keep up with the crickets.....and so on......and so on....And then you see how quickly a room will fill up with these little buggers!!

Enjoy!!!

I was a little worried about the Rose Hair, she hadnt moved in hours,T species get the name "pet rocks" for that reason. They literally stay stil lall day. but last night she went to her water bowl, climbed the glass then headed in to her log :) I dropped a cricket in today, she seemed to shy away, almost as if she was afraid of it.If you shipped her i would let her settle for a week before feeding. Also its not uncommon for a rose not to eat, but i think she just wasnt settled enough yet and was probably stressed The little one I call Marley (if she turns out to be a femal she stays Marley, if Male its Bob Marley) ate 3 small crickets yesterdayIf there really small its fine, but just watch that she (hopefully) doesnt get fat from multipel crickets., was really active and ducked into his log late last night and hasnt come out yet.

I am positive if locally I could get them ....oh yea at least five for sure, there are more Aphonopelma spp. then you can even image close to home, Spring time is cool, just 2 miles from my house in the fall you have to watch where you drive because they are all over the road. Its cool to go see but would never consider capturing one.

My New River has been coming out at night only, and my rose hair has been active to at night but have noticed her out during the late afternoon.

Marley looks to be a bit older than my New River, but it's hard to tell size by a photo. I've had River for 3 months now- he's molted twice and is still super tiny (i've been told these guys grow very slow, lol). He also comes out only at night, and even then only just outside the entrance of his hide.
