Its a text-book example of a Colombian Boa Constrictor (Boa constrictor imperator). Nice specimen too, Chris! :)

Im going to have to disagree .. Its a peruvian red tail not a colombian, it is easy to make that mistake considering they are both BCs. Sorry for the late response

I am going to lightly agree that it is a Peruvian and not a True Columbian. Great snake though!

I'm very curious to know why you think the above snake is a Peruvian? Peruvians have much smaller saddle counts and more pronounced medallions than Colombians, a bright red tail (since they are one of the true Red-Tails), a much cleaner, less speckled pattern, a different head pattern and they reach a much larger size than Colombians (10-14 feet is the usual maximum size for Peruvians).

Here are a couple pictures of Peruvian Boa Constrictors from www.boa-constrictors.com that show the typical coloration/pattern for the subspecies:

well pointed out david .. ;) i rest my case

Its easy to make that mistake considering it is a very contraversial issue whether a colombian should be catagorized as a BCC or a BCI due to their extreme similarities.

I agree with the taxonomic issue, Denis. I guess that I've seen so many Boas that its easy for me to pick out, or at least make an educated guess as to what locale type they may be. :)

Beautiful boa! I'm planning on purchasing a redtail myself in the next week or so.
