Sexing TWS's is a bit interesting. It's mainly a comparative task, from my understanding - females have wider mouthparts and stouters legs, whereas males are more slender overall. I can't tell for sure, but it looks to me as though the upper of the two is female and the lower is male (that one's mouthparts look to be less wide from one side to the other, but it could be the angle it's standing at)

This is slightly off-topic, so I apologize in advance. The picture just reminded me of an episode of Fear Factor. They called them "African Tarantulas" and the task was to eat the most of them while they were still alive. Completely barbaric.

I heard about this episode... it really angered me. I find it so difficult to understand why anyone thinks that eating live animals is a good form of entertainment...

Hi I am new to the boards, but not new to the hobby. Sexing TWS's is a comparative task. The males are much more slender in appearance than the females, but it is the males that have the longer but thinner pedipalps. The females palps are shorter and much heavier built. From the picture it looks like they are both females, with one just one molt behind the other one in age. When held closed the joint where the palps fold on the males will extend past the first major joint in the second pair of legs ( 1st pair of walking legs ).

Longbord1:
These are communal if given the right conditions. The individuals must be roughly the same size, smaller ones will be eaten. There must also be a number of hiding spaces for the individuals. Groups of females and immatures can be kept together with one mature males. More than one mature male in the tank and they will fight with usually the smaller male being killed. I keep 4 in a 55 gallon aquarium, two mature females, one immature female and one mature male. I had one more male than became mature last molt, but my other mature male killed him before I could get to him. Hope this helps.
