Recently acquired a new jumper thanks to a friend of mine. He's pretty cute in my opinion, and is surely an active little guy. I'm pretty sure he's Phidippus cardinalis, aka a Cardinal Jumping spider. He's pretty much the exact opposite of my Desert Punk jumper, who is really laid back, and timid.

As usual, I'm looking for name ideas! I'll be giving an update on my lovely Gene Simmons here soon, but life is busy, lolz.

Are you feeding him isopods?
Nah, he's in a large tank, with a live ecosystem. I have an ant colony and sum isopods, and the ants like to pile the dead ones up in the corner there, lol. I've been meaning to get a picture of the entire enclosure, but life is busy. He's fed mealworms, and crickets, along with whatever he's able to catch around his enclosure.

I've never had an issue, as it's a very large tank. If he doesn't do well, which is possible, I'll move him out. But with the size of the tank and then I'm not concerned. It also will likely wind up being a temporary setting, as I am wanting to sell the tank at some point for space reasons.

Honestly for me personally I would just move him out if you're able to do so right now, better than waiting for an accident that will likely result in the death of your jumper. It's usually better to make sure the enclosures are tailored to the animals needs and suit them rather than trying to throw them in with preexisting set ups you have for other animals that have different needs.

Your little red friend needs his own viv , jumpers are inquisitive he will try n check out those ants and it won't end well for him. I wouldn't even keep isopods with a juvenile t never mind something as small as a jumper and I wouldn't have ants anywhere near my spiders or t's , I have heard horror story's about slings that were eaten by ants or isopods while they moulted, not worth the risk of your new friends life imo he is tiny compared to a t.

I hope this guy finds reason. This is not safe in any way.

One of my earliest memories is watching little black ants eat 2 tiny baby birds alive in the nest, dont think for a second they stop at other bugs lol. nature is messed up

A nature show I watched said they will kill any animal regardless of size if it doesn’t run .away… they said a lion 🦁 nat geo . Hmm I’d think a lion could walk fast enough to outrun ants 🐜?

If an animal is swarmed by a big enough group of ants and doesn’t move for whatever reason, I recon it could be eaten regardless of what it is. Especially if it's a more aggressive/defensive sp.

No one likes to be told they are doing something wrong when its working for them.

i don’t think the advice you are getting is coming from a bad place. You are actualy lucky to have people with experience take time to give you information with the background they have.

i really have to agree about the ants: not fit to cohabitate with spiders.

maybe it has been working for you. Until now. If you can live with it going twilight zone, then keep doing it.

i know i would feel bad if i lost my tarantulas knowing it was my fault because i kept doing something that was not recommended by peers with experience.

that being said, you seem to have gained experience with your enclosure type setting. Keep doing you.

consider what others have said to come and aid you in your husbandry.

that is a gorgeous red spider. It would be a shame to lose it to other insects.
