I got a new tarantula yesterday afternoon! It's a 4-5" P. formosa female. She's really pretty, but doesn't like to have her picture taken. When I opened her container, she ran up my arm and in my shirt. I also had to chase her out of my shorts leg once. She's fast! Here's her pictures:

pokies look awesome, im about to get my first arboreal and not sure if something like a pokie is a good starter. my only concern really is their spead, and i have a good idea for a tank. are they defensive or do they hide when disturbed?

*counts legs*

Let's see, four legs on one side, four on the other, and... what the heck are those two extra long things at the front of it's body? That either makes 10 legs, or one really big set of fangs. *cringe*

Those are the pedipalps, they help the tarantula catch and hold their food, much like a scorpion w/o the pincers. All spiders have them but they are much larger on Tarantulas. It is kind of wierd seeing somebody ask this question, you don't own a T, do you? Just asking, don't get offeneded=D

No offense taken. :)

It's true, I am a rank newbie, but an aspiring tarantula owner.

They do have rather long palps though, don't they?

Just LOOKING at that picture releases the adrenaline, and thoughts of Martin's bite report run through my head!

Joy, you must have a mental thing with these guys, are you the Sonya Fitzpatrick of Tarantulas?:D You project the thought to them: "You will not bite, you will not bite, you will not bite...." and they listen to you, don't they?
