Went to the Slidell show this weekend and picked up some more snakes.

1st up Caramel corn Got a pair of these and absolutely love the colors on them.

Next Got a pair of sunglows They wont look like this when grown but will instead get better and better with age.

And lastly I scored a screamer adult pair of Pink and Green snows also known as bubblegum corns. The pinks and greens dont show good in pics but believe me they are there. Best of all they are het for stripe so they will throw some pink and green stripe babies. I wish the pics would show them accurately but they are far better in person as Swifty can attest to. :) By the way hope the show went well for ya Kelly.

Pretty corns. You need to get some meaner ratsnakes. ;)

Is there still a real market for designer corns? I still see them at the shows, but I know almost nobody who owns one.

Cheers,

Yes down here there is still quite a market for them. Granted the prices come down on some morphs quickly due to the quick reproduction rate but new morphs surface all the time. Personally though with corns I don't go for what costs the most as much as what I like the looks of.

Not sure what you mean by meaner rats unless you are talking texas rats etc which I hate the looks of. I do have the albino black rats but they aren't what you would call mean unless they are feeding. And of course the mandarins are great as well but again not what I would call mean just flighty as hell.
Most of the meaner or bitier rats seem to either look dull or do badly in captivity which steers me away from them. I tend to go for color and species that thrive in captivity.

Phil, you have always said that you are a color freak. Those are beautiful snakes. The anerythristic you sold me last year is growing fast and looks great! Can't wait to see some babies from those.

Phil, I was only kidding around somewhat. I was referring to the E. obsoleta species, i.e. grays, blacks, Texas, yellows. etc. While they're not typically aggressive, I've noticed that they're more likely to jump and/or snap in response to movements around them. OTOH, corn snakes, especially adults, seem to be much more mellow in their reactions. They either look in that general direction and move on, or act like nothing happened. I realize there are individual personalities, but those seem to be the general behavioral differences between the species from my observations.

Phil-

Try some Asian rat snake species and then you will learn the true meaning of "bitey, flighty, aggressive, just plain hates people snakes" LOL. I've worked with hundreds of snakes and red tail green rat snakes (Gonyosoma oxycephala) are hands down the most aggressive of them all. Here's a pic of a couple of mine, LOL they look so sweet and innocent in these photos too..

Those are some incredible looking snakes. (The rat snakes and Phil's snakes.)

Knowing me, I'd have to test my luck and try to hold one...

I've kept a few Asian rats and know what you mean. The Redtails especially are pretty nasty. Currently the only Asians I have are the mandarins which aren't bitey but run like crazy and hate being handled.

Phillip,

Post some of those mandarins! They are absolutely on my list of all time favorite colubrids. By the way, Cornsnakes are still a great snake in my book regardless of their market value.

Kelli,

Nice snakes! What type of cages are they in?

GQ, it looks like the corns were pictured still in the deli cups they were purchased in at the show. The Red-tailed Green ratsnakes are in what looks like a Neodesha cage.

Bry,

Ahh, IC. I figured the deli cup part, I just wasn't sure about the Neodeshas though. I have a few of their small sliding top opening cages, but I've never owned any of their front opening cages. I'm always looking for new ideas/cage building supplies.

The pics were taken before they were removed from the cups upon my return from the show. Although I have seen folks keep small snakes in them I personally don't. The young corns are together in a large pet pal until they reach a size that warrants individual sterilites. The adult pink and green snows are together in a 20 long while my albino okeetees ( not pictured here) are in a 40 gallon breeder. I'll try and remember to get a mandarin pic up when I get home tonight. I have been trying to get more pics of the mandarins but they move real fast and freak out whenever they see me so it has been hard to get any good shots of them.
