Hey Gasman, welcome to AB! My first T was a smithi as well, so I am a bit partial. :D

She's a beaut, but a little word of advice, if you don't mind. You should get her off the wood chips, and onto some peat. Wood chips of any kind are not a good substrate for tarantulas. Peat soil tends to be top choice, some ppl here mix it with vermiculite, or sphagum moss. Others use coco fiber. This comes in blocks that you hydrate, then squeeze all the excess water out of before putting it in the tank. I use this for my spiderlings and hermit crabs.

The peat can be found in any garden center, or places like Lowe's and Home Depot. Just read your labels and make sure you get plain old peat, NO fertilizers.

Hope to see more pics. May you have many happy years with your girl.

Oh, she's beautiful! I love smithies. I do agree with the above two posters though, she should definately not be on wood chips.

Enjoy her!

Peat is definitely the way to go. I get a 40 lb. bag every 5 or 6 months or so, 23+ T's, and my wife also uses it for gardening. Make sure it is all organic with no chemical additives that could be T harmful. ENJOY. And by the way, go get a few more T's.

That's pet stores! Sometimes, sellers dont even knows that T's are still venomous, like if they had a surgery to feep of their venom.
