I purchased what I thought (and was told) was a Haplopelma Schmidti (Black Earth Tiger) but I've been told since that it's not what it is. Check these pics out and let me know if you have any idea what this is. I believe it may actually be a Haplopelma Minax.

I don't think that's minax. How large is it? Looks like H. hainanum to me. These are often sold as H. schmidti ""dark form", or something to that effect.

it's about 6". I thought the H. hainanum was lighter, mine's pretty much jet black. almost with a slight bluish tint. the tiger markings on his abdomen are very faint.

I don't own a hainanum, but all the pictures I've seen suggest a very dark spider. An H. minax probably could reach 6", but any larger and you can bet you've got H. hainanum.

IMHO, this clearly belongs to the Haplopelma schmidti group. So all the guesses of species from the Haplopelma minax group (H. minax, vonworthi, etc) are incorrect.

Due to the fact that you purchased it as H. schmidti "DCF", the overall habitus of the spider, and the very strong "white beard", it's a decent guess your spider will prove to be Haplopelma hainanum.

If you want a real ID, wait for a molt and try to send it to one who works with this group of spiders.
