Took some photos of the ackies. I have two, but only one is good haha the other just hides in the log all day every day.

This is how I found one of them sleeping the other day. This was right as the lights turned on for the day so he must have spent all night like that - hilarious!

Others I took this morning as he was waking up... I can't get macro to get the whole head in focus.. if the eye is in focus, the nose isn't.. drives me nuts.

This is the other one in his favourite place. It's either here or under the water bowl allll day.

Sorry there are so many, hope you enjoyed!

Amazing! Looks VERY healthy and happy. I love seeing these monitors and tegus as pets vs some of the others.. these are so much better IMO. Did you "tame" yours?

One of them is fairly "tame". As you can see I can pick him up without a worry, and he is quite content being with me for a while but eventually gets a little antsy and wants to go back.. some days he doesn't want to be touched, but normally is fine and I can stroke his head and everything. The other one wants nothing to do with me.

Mine were the same way when they were small. Once they grew to adults, they became much more tolerant of being messed with.

That is one gorgeous reptile! What species is it, exactly?

Absolutely amazing. I wish we had the space for them, and that they weren't as expensive as they are. I'm not sure what they go for in the states, but around here, I believe they're at least $500 each, and then when you figure in the enclosure costs, etc, it's not really in the cards for two students. One of these days though, definitely. Yours are very fantastic looking, nice enclosure as well.

Very Nice! I was all set to get one but then the petstore I worked at closed and I lost my flow of funds. Some day...some day...

In the states you should expect to pay around $250.00 and $300.00 for what we are calling red ackies. Yellows go for around $175.00 to $200.00.

If you're in the states, let me know when that day comes. We have a number of clutches each year.

Not trying to steal the post form PhilK, just thought I'd answer those two posts.

These are red 'sandfire' ackies and I got them for $250 each, which is the going price for ackies over here in Australia.

The common name isn't Ackies monitor, but is spiny tailed or ridge tailed monitor. Varanus acanthurus.. really awesome pets and great fun to have around. WAY better than snakes!

Thanks for the nice comments guys!
