I went to the IRBA show today in Pamona and walked away with four T's and a 9" Mexican Black Kingsnake, still quite young! She (or he) is a beautiful snake. {D

Hey I'm new to this site, so I'm just trying it out.

As for snakes, I just got a baby Blotched Kingsnake thats about a foot long. I'm still struggling to try to pick it up for the first time because I have accidentally aggitated it during feeding, so do you guys have any tips on picking up a pet snake for the first time?

And I need to know if feeding in the snake in a seperate container in necessary, because I know picking up and moving the snake is stressful and eating is also stressful, but i dont want the snake to associate the feeding scent with his container or my scent for that matter!

Calliope,
Would love to see pics of your Mexican black kingsnake. I love the solid black color. They almost look evil or something.{D

ktblotchking07,
Your kind of hi-jacking this thread. Next time try starting a new one. Since your new though... Do not attempt to pick up your kingsnake when its hungry or within say 48 hours after it eats. They tend to be pretty grumpy. Your new snake will take awhile to become accustomed to being handled. Try lightly touching it/ picking it up once or twice a week. They tend to calm down as they grow and get larger too.
When I feed I put the food item in or on something such as a small plastic plate. This way I don't have to remove the animal and yet have no chance of it swallowing a foriegn object.

Given that this thread is over a year old and Calliope hasn't posted on arachnoboards in five months, I don't think it's going to be much of a problem. You might have a while to wait on that pic request, though. :D

Exactly why this person should have started a new post. Thanks for the update on when this was originally posted. Nice of you to add something of value. Still would like to see a pic though.
