I have a western hognose coming and I have a simple question on heating.

I want to use a heat emitter to heat the hot spot and cage. Is it okay to use a heat emitter at night if it is turned down with a rehostat? or can they see the infrared?

yes use a ceramic heat emitter you have to use it at night because the hot spot should always stay hot hence it being a hot spot.

but thats my opinion.

The use of the heater is situational. What is the room temperature where the hognose will be kept? Hognose only need a "hot area" temperature of 78-82, "cool area" of the lower 70's to be kept successfully. As for nighttime temperatures, the temperature can drop to the lower 70's.

If you keep your house warm enough, you don't need any supplemental heat.

No, they cannot see the infra-red. I'm pretty sure only vipers have that kind of ability.

And lol at being the first person to answer the actual question. xD

I agree with they can't see it and you shouldn't need any heat at night unless it gets quite cold. I think a night drop is beneficial...I do it for all of my snakes.
