Due to the fact that my batteries for my camera disappeared (?) I can only show you or give a tutorial on how I did the background since it was already saved on my computer. I can not show how my Goliath's cage looks now but I can show the background.
What I used:
Styrofoam
liquid concrete
silicone
artificial fish plants
acrylic paint
knife
gloves
paint brushes
1) cut Styrofoam to the right dimensions. drew the general pattern I wanted.
2) indented desired ridges in the background Styrofoam.
3) cut extra Styrofoam in shapes of ridges and rock patterns to match or nearly match previously drawn background pattern
4) silicone the grooves in the background and then the extra Styrofoam ridges or rock-like patterns to the background in desired areas
5) after silicone dries, lay down a layer of liquid concrete and let dry (using a paint brush). After that dries lay down another layer and let dry again.
6) use acrylic paint to paint desired background. silicone the stems of the artificial fish plants to desired areas of the background. let dry.
7) completely silicone the front part of the background so that there are no open pores or spaces in the background's design.
8) once that is dry attach the plastic leaves from the artificial fish plants to desired stems already attached to the background.
9) That's it! Put in cage when ready. I use hot glue to put backgrounds on enclosures.
Also, non-tarantula related news, the new kitten that I accidentally adopted due to the fact that she was abandoned and nobody wanted her. She's blind in the left eye:
