Cool setup , how big are the 2 T's? Some people try to discourage using Divided Tanks but I have never had a Problem. All you have to do is make sure there are no gaps, and the Divider is Secure. Saves alot of money to.

The OBT is 5" and the Lp is 2½" -- room to grow. The hinged cover securely allows access to either side.

My b/f took a 10 gallon and put a board in the middle to separate it for the A. seemani and the B. smithi. I noticed the next day the glass was cracked all the way up the side. :8o :wall:  Oh well. It hasnt busted, so far....

IMHO I would say that it was adequite for a smaller (younger) but not adult spider. I used a 20 as they have long footprint. I found a screened cover (petco, boo hiss, stridulate!) that hinges in the center. I am partial to glass enclosures as they usually have better visibility.

when putting in the divider, make sure that it is not snug, but a little loose. Let the adhesive fill in the gap.

Thats kinda funny.... see this story about the same two species

L. parahybana = 1
P. murinus = 0

11/03/00- Folks, a bad thing happened today and I feel very sad about it. Perhaps others can learn from my mistake. I had "Psycho, our newly aquired 4" sunburst baboon," in a 10 gallon aquarium separated (by a sheet of plexiglass) from "Pollux" (a 6" Salmon Pink Bird Eater, Lasiodora parahybana). There was a small space between the top of the plexiglass divider and the screen. I placed a large rock on top of the screen to prevent the possibility of "Psycho" crossing over into "Pollux's" space. Well, last night I opened the cage to feed "Psycho" some crickets. Who knows why, but I forgot to replace the rock on top of the cage. WHAT A BIG MISTAKE!!!

wow lyle...you sure know how to kill a thread ;P j/k

funny you should mention this as well as bagheera...just ordered a sling of each of the aforementioned species. I'll be sure to be very careful if i decide to split a tank, which would be economical as it could be converted back to a single inhabitant 20g tank when the parahybana gets older. But might be easier to deal with them if they were just in seperate tanks lol...hmmm, have to mull this over

I have a few cracked 10 Gal tanks that I salvaged from my days as an indentured servant @ Pestco. They all have one clean crack on one side resulting from shipping damage. They'd leak if used as an aquarium, and they couldn't really be sold. They had to be written off as "damaged in shipping" and we were supposed to throw them in the dumpster and smash them to pieces, but I had a mgr who would split the 'booty' w/me. :D I keep a mouse in one, a leopard gecko in another. Haven't had any problems w/them...so far ;)

But wouldn't splitting a 10 gal give you approximately the same space as 2 x 5 Gal tanks? :? Don't a lot of people keep their T's in enclosures that are about this size? I'm just wondering, cuz it seems like it would be about the same as a lg kritter keeper, or a 5 Gal tank, etc. that a lot of people use for, say, a G. rosea, or a B. smithi or some other similarly-sized tarantula. :)

Well, both critters have arrived and are at home in their respective sides. Based upon info from the boards and assorted care sheets, I gave the (adult) OBT 5" of potting soil/verm mix and the 2" L parhybana about 2-3". (OBT is on LHS, or sinister if you know heraldry) . So. The OBT hangs out near the top of the box (to facilitate flashing to the ceiling of the room). He has also uprooted or stomped all the plants! {D The little parhybana on the other hand, has dug a pit to the bottom and built webbed walls around this! :? WTF?

I had two T's in one 20 gal. tank. Had the Plexiglass from the bottom of the tank, to the top. No way way the T's could interact. Then one of the kids had a friend over and they went into the animals room (without permission) and was apparently messing with the T's while I was at work, and left the lid partially up. I got a call at work that the smaller T had wandered over and become lunch for the bigger one. Now the door is locked and nobody enters unless I unlock it. Good luck with your set-up, it looks nice.

Nice job, it looks excellent. This may be a dumb question but...are those live plants or plastic?

Thanks!

All the plants are fake--but for the fern in the front. Which, after a week is ALLREADY dying, between stomper and and my own black thumbs LOL. I *claim* there is no accidental way of them getting at each other. It did occur to me to put a 1/4" diameter hole between them so they could thumb (palp?) their noses (??) at each other!! ;P

If the lid was off the OBT would be in the next county durn quick. The parhybana would still be dug in. :D

1 week later

As you can see, the OBt is visable on LHS. Also apparent are all the flattened plants. {D The Birdeater isn't as visible.

In the glare of a flashlight you can see the birdeateater's webworks!

And finally a closer look at the OBT's work!
