This How To is dedicated to Warpig. In a thread about his acrylic enclosures, we both agree on enclosures that minimize bites and facilitate maintenance by using a tube to direct water to the water dish.

I bet Coleman isn't aware of the fact that they build better spider enclosures than lanterns. Here is one of my many Coleman casualties.

On the left is the water dish( soda cap). On the right is a tube that allows humidity to rise from the base that is filled with gravel and water below. this pic underneath shows the base on the far right that is filled w/gravel and water.

On the left slot where the lantern tube goes is the fill hole that leads to the water dish. the hole on the right is the feed hole (I had a rubber cork that I nned to replace to plevent wondering into the cap), and the cap fits on top, and is the only place you do maintenance/ except for filling the base with water. I sometimes don't mess with the bottom. Now that I dug it out I will set it up and take pics. ENJOY!

I should add that I had to reglue the flower and vines that is why you see twist ties. And this one never made it to the little elf station that drill ventilation holes.

LOL. Now if I filled it with lightning bugs as my porch light....

That is the beauty of it. I made absolutely NO modification except for drilling ventilation holes. You just have to remove the guts and you're set which takes about 5 minutes. Oh yea, the cost of a soda and a 6" piece of tubing.

I guess I am over stating the fact that some people design enclosures that make it difficult for themselves to fill the water dish. Especially, if your design causes you unnecessary reaching into the enclosure putting yourself in closer proximity, especially if you don't have the experience you have is all I was saying.

that's a pretty creative set-up you've made. I've seen a lot of 'other' things i thought about making into tarantula cages, but the only ones of them i actually used were pretzel jars. i can't really imagine putting that much substrate in one of your lantern cages though, because of the water cap being glued to the bottom.

so you don't like something simply because it doesn't suit your needs? i wouldn't have skipped out on the punctuation and spelling because it would have made you look smarter.

Talkenlate04- "Ghetto"

You're right- Like you know you know you are. lol.

Even though you can get a Coleman battery lantern for next to nothing. Have a spider enclosure in about 15 min. Doesn't mean you want a Fred Sanford looking enclosure sitting around. So I am going to try to "jazz" it up a bit.

First, you need ventilation holes right? Well drill two holes, one on top of each other. On the bottom hole, gently move your drill bit up & down to elongate it. Then take an engraving bit and make the legs. I did a rush job on this because it was a used lantern with a scuffed globe. You can buy a new acrylic globe for about $5. I would take my time on a new one and I would do a more elaborate engraving too. I did this in about 20 minutes.

It doesn't look like the bottom holes are elongated in the photo...but they are.

Took quite some time to get this little Irminia evicted. There is about a good inch of peat, which is plenty for an arboreal.

And it showed it's displeasure.

And it went right for the water dish. It molted about 1 week ago.

Awesome! Especially like the spider-like venting holes. Looks very decorative in front of that picture. :)

I always have my enclosures staged next to my artwork. When people come over to see my artwork they 100% ask about T's. I can say I have turned at least two people on to collecting T's.

For example. Here is my desk.

oh yea...Thanks!
