My granddaughter's 10th birthday is coming up, and she's wanted a Brachypelma albopilosum for a while. (She knows the scientific names of many of my spiders.) She's read TKG (has her own copy), and loves all animals. We talked about what size she might want, and the advantages and shortcomings of each. She really wants a tiny s'ling to grow up with. So (without her knowledge) I've ordered 5 of them...{D thinking she can grow them a bit, then pick a female to keep, and sell the rest. (What size can you reliably sex a Curly Hair?)

How cool! That's really neat :)

Starting at 2" is when I'd be looking at the molt and ventral to see if you could tell what sex they are.

(In reference to the part I put in bold....) With a B. albo? She will certainly grow up with it! Might even get to middle-aged with it. :D

Actually B. albopilosum grow more quickly than some other brachys. You can sex them at about an inch with an microscope.

^ Lol, I should have read your post preceding mine and I would have seen 'Jon'. My mistake for only reading the first few posts and that you were buying for your granddaughter. Aw well, it's the same sentiment, whether grandmother or grandfather. {D

Yeah B. albo grow pretty fast as far as Brachys go, our male went from a 1/2" sling to MM in about 2 years.

Cute little guy.
