well, as most of you know my sister passed down a ball python for me beacause he had a bitting problem.. i have had numerous bps in the past aand have grown to notice that they are great, calm, laidback snakes. but this one, i cant even hold! if you get to close to his cage he is cocked back in stricking potition!and when you do hold him, he wont relax he is in that potition and is as hard as a rock refusing to get used to me holding him... i hope hope hope i can train the abstunence out of him. i am holding him more and more he has a nice encloser, but he just hates the world. i still havent named him i was thinking orion, which means great hunter. but i think i want something more strong, powerful, and stubborn to match his personality. please, how can i get him to act like a real sweet ball python his behavior struck me in shock beacause he is a bp!! i want a snake who is calm, and nice but i am not giving up on him like his last owners did. i AM going to make this work.
thanks

oh! and for the first time this weekend i held and seen my first scorpian at my aunt work. i volunteered all this week, i got bit by a macaw, held and seen a scorpian under the blacklight(really cool!), held a tegu, held and fell in love with the same macaw that bit me he only bit trying to get my attention and my aunt said he never lets anyone anyone pet him or touch him but i was able to have him perch on my arm and give me a kiss the kids loved when i showed him around the store:) he was a sweet heart. but anyways i loved the scorpian so much i might actually consider getting one. and i never knew anything about their unusual color when under the black light how cool! ok well didnt mean bore you thanks for your time.

Its not uncommon to find BP's that act like that. Kinda like the Whole rosea thing. How big is it? some babys are just nippy. Just give it time and work with it.

When I worked at a wildlife rescue and sanctuary we'd get unwanted snakes, many of which were not handleable at all. What we did was put the "bad" snake in a snake bag or pillow case and just hold it in the bag so it gets used to hands and touching. Working for nearly all of them to the point that some of the snakes were used for educational purposes in classrooms where the kids could hold them. Not saying that it works every time, but definitely a good chance.
