This little (approx 1/4 inch in body lenth) Bold Jumping Spider came home with me from work a week ago. I manage a produce department at a grocery store, and this little one survived shipping in a case of apples and being in my produce cooler for 4 days! I am mostly new to keeping one as an actual pet, and had a temporary container for it until the new habitat came. Now, new habitat and it seems content. I do not know ->exactly<- what I should be looking at to sex it, and would be happy for any help in that area. Any other tips are welcome, too.

Jumping spiders unlike Scorpions and such are Diurnal ( I believe) so feed during the day, Jumpers will often make silken ' cocoons' nothing to worru out probably just molting or resting

Nice looking jumper very cute. Great find

It looks female. I have a male Phidippus audax. From what I looked up supposedly females are more rounded in body shape.

Males have longer front legs and their body forms kind of a triangle going backwards which mine does.

I do not handle mine and that probably just comes naturally for me since I have tarantulas.

I absolutely love mine but I know they have a very short life span.

Let the first picture be a suggestion by the caption "Hi! Just FYI, I will run and rule your life if you let me. Get used to it. Now, about my meals and the room service...."

Thank you for your response! Yes, sadly, from what I've found they can live anywhere between 6 month and a few years.

Is there any particular reasoning for choosing to not handle your Tarantulas?? I'm curious? Me... I'm terrified of the fangs, but would hold one and not hurt it if I had the opportunity.

I won't get into that topic about handling T's. Go to the search function at the top of AB and search on handling tarantulas or just handling.

Update:
Here's one link for you on why handling is a bad idea

She had a nice meal today. My daughter heard a house fly in my bedroom window. I caught it and (sorry) removed its wings for safety reasons, then put it in Tif's enclosure. She immediately saw it and watched it. After about 30-45 minutes, this is what happened. It's around 1 min in to the video. I'm very pleased to see this, as she hasn't taken anything from me, until now, except water since I brought her home last month. ❤ We have soil gnats, which I've seen inside her enclosure, but wasn't sure if she was getting them or not. I have flightless fruit-flies coming on Weds, but think I will be getting small feeder crickets from somewhere now that I've seen this.

I too just recently have been combating fungus gnats.

Never had a problem with them. The brand of substrate I've used this time is what has caused me the issue. I've used this brand in the past and never had an issue.

I have the flat fly paper you can stick on flat services which works like a charm.

Best way to combat them, that I've found, is to use double sided sticky squares that have spikes that attach to them to stick directly into the soil. Also, allow your soil to dry out completely. They flourish is moist soils. I have been watering intentionally to help keep some kind of food source around. I took some of that soil and put it in her enclosure. She caught the fly around 11:30am. It's 5:45pm and she is still feeding. Should I be concerned?

I wouldn't recommend feeding wild caught insects to T's. Could be introducing parasites and/or pesticides. Not always but it is always a risk.

She's a jumping spider, not a tarantula. Pretty sure she would have caught it if she were roaming freely in my apartment or out in the wild where she came from. I am not overly concerned, but thank you for letting me know.
