As of last Friday my family got bigger. :D

Meet Quincy, my 5-month-old Double-Yellow-Head Amazon. He was a gift from my best friend who breeds birds.

At first I was under the impression that I was only going to have him until she finds a suitable buyer - until she winked at me and told me I'd better name him since he was here to stay. He came with a beautiful, huge, brand new cage.

He's SUCH a love, and has picked up quite a few words already.

All right - enough babbling....here he is:

Thanks Mori, thanks so much.

Quincy is a love. I can't get over the vocabulary he's developing in no time at all. He's picking up a lot from my Yellow-Nape Amazon, but his voice is different.

He's really adjusted quickly. Everyone is handling him all the time because I don't want him to become a 1-person bird.

Hi Malkavian,

Yes, there is such thing as a single, but they're called Yellow-Front. The "Double" means that when fully mature the yellow markings on the head will be in front of the eyes as well as extending over the head reaching all the way to the neck. My Yellow-Nape's yellow markings are only on the neck.

Pionus are gorgeous birds as well, I'm particularly fond of the Blue-headed Pionus.

Hi Dianne,

Yep, you understood it right. My GF gave me Quincy for free. Since I hang out with her so much, I've known him ever since she pulled him and his sister from the nest to hand-rear them. :)

 WOW - Oblivion, he's GORGEOUS!!!!!

Is he/she an "Orange-Winged"? Beautiful Amazon. How old is yours? Do you know whether it's a boy or a girl?

You said Tarzan talks too much....lol....mine can never say enough for me.

Well, unless I'm watching a movie and they start their "show", THEN I wish I'd never taught them to mimic. {D

I have to commend you guys with those birds.....

I have a lovebird and I'll tell you,,,,,it takes a special person to deal with the chirp and squaks that they make. I know the macaws blow your ears right off your head inside a confined area!

Anyways.......Very nice birds. I love them and hope to get some someday but I am still trying to grow in the Invert and Reptile dept first here at home.

P.S. Hi Wendy!

Hi Chris. :)

I know the sound you're talking about with the lovebirds. After a while you have to refrain from holding them a bit too tightly, right? Each chirp seems to permanently adhere to the top of your brain.

My Caique can get noisy, but the minute I put a new toy in there or on top she quiets down.

Sex confirmation

Well, even though I've been referring to Quincy as "he", I had him DNA sexed just to be 100% accurate, and the results are in.

IT'S A BOY! {D

His sibling was considerably smaller than him, with a smaller beak and smaller head, and even though my GF was SO sure he was a boy just because she raised the both of them and saw the differences, I had to make sure and drew some blood last week. (He's forgiven me since ;) )

He delivered his first bite last weekend, and my 12-year old son was the victim. I will not blame Quincy because my son kept putting his face against the cage bars, asking for kisses (which he'll give to ME). I warned him numerous times, but .....kids always know better, especially at that age....and therefore he ended up with a hole in his nose. Right after the incident I told him to open his cage and take him out the appropriate way, and all was well - and thankfully forgotten (despite the mark he left on the nose).
