Nemesis/Mexican Red Knee

I can't touch my T because she flicks her u-hairs at me and I have an allergy to them. :(

I used to have a B. smithi and she wasn't nice either...just flicked hairs whenever she knew I was close...sometimes things just work out that way, but it's a really nice looking T you got there either way :D

The common name for B smithi (which you appear to have) is Mexican Red Knee, not Red Leg. Why do you want to touch her / him??

Exactly why common names are frustrating.

Sometimes common names can be helpful but when it comes to Brachypelma the latin names are actually easier for me to understand and the common names confuse me to death :?

how do u know that you are allergic to u hairs?

Whenever i handle my b. smithi, there tend to be small bumps on my hands that look like mosquito bites but after 10 mins, they go away. Am i allergic?

i love handling my smithi , and mine has no problem with me and never flicks hairs as long as i move quickly and deliberately , if you are not confident and your hand just hovers there , it spooks them . enjoy your t as much as possible and use hydrocortezone cream after rinsing your hands in cold water , rinse every time after handling or maintaining .

I am finding that I am becoming more sensative to urticating hairs, especially my Brachypelmas. I actually get a rash on my arms from simple cage maintenance. I guess I will just get used to it.

In microbiology this past week, we talked about how ppl can have worse allergic reactions to things if they are reintroduced to it. The body makes memory cells T-cells. When a person is exposed to what they are allergic to again, the body can actually react to it faster and worse than before. Be careul!

Huge Abdoman

Nemesis's abdoman has gotten so huge in the last two weeks it is dragging when she crawls. I don't over feed her so what is happening to her?

Do you have a picture?

Did you buy her (are you sure it's a her?) from a petstore? Do you know if she is WC (wild-caught) or CB (captive-bred)?

Bought Nemesis at Pet store

Yes I did but Her at a pet store and they said she was female so assume they knew what they were talking about. They said that they had to get rid of her because that pet stores are not allowed to have Mexican T's anymore.
They wanted $120 for her but I said I didn't want to pay that much and they let me have her for $80. My batteries are on the charger and when they get done I will take a couple pic's of her. She looks like she is going to explode.

She may be WC. Petstores aren't allowed to export some Ts at this point, but if it was CB there's no reason why they couldn't have it in their store that I know of.

Unfortunately, most petstores don't know what they're talking about when it comes to tarantulas. This includes a lot of "exotic" pet stores. Don't get me wrong, some do, but most seem to be fairly ignorant of tarantulas.

Any other behaviors that are different than normal? She may just be well-fed.
