My neighbor is moving from California to Texas. She called yesterday and asked me to take her two snakes, as she didn't want to be caught dead tryng to take them over the border. Since I've already spent $200 in vet bills on the 7' red tail I rescued from her, I declined.

I am, however, aming the same move to Texas later this year... hopefully! Can I drive from CA to TX with my 2 red tail boas and 1 ball python? I'm hopelessly attached to my female red tail, who is hoplessly attached to the male. I'd hate to leave them here, does anybody know the Txas herp laws or can direct me to the agency who does know?

Thanks much!

Depending on where you are moving to....there are some suburbs of DFW where you can't have snakes over 6' I think.....Here in San antonio, everything is legal, constrictor wise....only rule...no venemous in the city limits.

I think she is moving to the Houston area. Me, I'm headed for Leander, 30 miles out of Austin.

A buddy of mine in Austin had large constrictors, retics, and they were perfectly legal. I am not sure about venemous reptiles. I have been trying to find something on google, but cannot find anything helpful. I will post something if I do.

Try contacting either of these. I am sure the Herp Societies in Texas should be informed of any and all regulations..its worth a shot.

I've just sent them an e-mail. Thanks much Envy!

I was born in your neck of the woods, Alameda, CA. But, this state has become too crowded for me, I'm gettin' out after 45 years!

I live in Cedar Park Tx. Leander and Cedar Park are practically the same city. They will be one city pretty soon the way it is growing here. You really can't see much of a gap between the two little cities right now as it is. I've had many snakes and have never heard of any restricting laws about keeping snakes here. But, there could be. I doubt it though. I think venomous snakes are only illegal in duplexes and apartments here, but I'm not sure. Pythons and Boas are sold in the stores here all the time. The Zookeeper and Herpeton are here. Doesn't seem like the snake hobby is as popular here as it used to be though. Not as many snakes in the stores. They can order special stuff for you at those stores. Leander should be a good investment for you guys if you buy. A train/railway system is in the works, multilevel overpasses, new roads, stores....it's going kind of crazy here! But you probably knew that already.

Wow, thanks. I'm going to buy a few acres so no one can get TOO close to me!:p I'm told Roundrock is nice too. So many choices. Well, thanks for the info, I was worried that transporting them from one state to another could be tricky, but if they are legal there, I should have no problems.

I'll look you up when I get there, we can compare collections!:D

ROUNDrock!! Ahhh, it's ok if you don't like bug stuff. Just kidding. Yea I bought over an acre myself. I could give you some tips about where to look if you want to buy a few acres. I look around allot. Just south of Liberty Hill and north of Jonestown there is some pretty good land, thinking off the top of my head real fast. There's a little area called "Joppa" too that I like. I like it over there. Allot of sprawling going on around Leander with small lots. I don't like that. I think it's slowing down though. I gotta go now!...
