Found this little guy scurrying across my desk this morning so I invited him onto my finger for an impromptu photo session.

For the record, my desk is on the University of Hawaii-Manoa campus in Honolulu, Hawaii.

Also, can anybody recommend any books that might help me learn to identify these ants myself? Or just insects in general. Or just arthropods in general :)

Thanks!

EDIT: Been looking, and I think it's either Cardiocondyla kagutsuchi or Pseudomyrmex gracilis.

I'm leaning towards Pseudomyrmex gracilis.

Can anybody verify this?

It looks like one of those primitive ants, that came from wasps.

It is Pseudomyrmex gracilis one of the all too many non native species to invade Hawaii.
