Small insect Just gave birth under my ownership I caught it outside a few weeks ago and now have discovered it gave birth-at the cost of its own life- Apperently it stuck itself to the top of the lid and deposited some egg cases then sat atop them until it died.. there is now about 30 small little things inside of its enclosure -deffiniat young. I have no good pictures of the young or the now deceased mother so I can not post a pix as of yet.

She reminded me of a skinny assassin bug. long legs oblong leaf shapped body and a long probiscus tube thing green in colouration with brown wings. The young have swarmed her dead body so I am presuming their scavengers/predetors I wil lbe introducing some suger in there just incase I am wrong.. any Ideas of a possible genera for these buggers?

Reduviidae - Genus: Gardena

There is a genus, Gardena (possibly Gardena melanarthrum), of the assassin bug family that consist of very slender and long legged species. They mainly live in leaf litter and plants, but some species live on spider webs feeding on entangled prey.

Is it typical for an assassin to lay its eggs then die? as far as I know the mother died while holding onto the eggs and only fell off upon their hatching. I never witnessed her feed considering I was jsut collecting her for a specimen not a pet.. lol..

Most assassin bugs dont die after laying eggs. Its really hard to make an accurate ID without a picture. Would a picture of the dead female be possible?
