I bought a starter colony of Dubias around September and I have 8 males and some females, my room stays at 82 F and I still don't have any babies. They will not eat fruits or veggies. What am I doing wrong???
What exactly are they eating, and how are you keeping them?
Step one may be cutting back on the males. Overcrowding and/or an overly high ratio of males to females can both be possible causes, but diet may be an issue as well.
Usually breeding problems can be narrowed down to three main causes:
#1-Overcrowding, females feel stressed and they won't reproduce.
#2-Food problems, make sure you feed a good quality dry food along with the supplimental fruits and vegetables. I use Purina Game Fish Chow, but any good quality dog food should do fine.
#3-Improper heat, either they are being kept too hot or too cold. Doesn't sound like that's the case here.
Another thing to consider is maybe the guy who sold you the roaches picked out "exhausted" females, those that have stopped reproducing due to age or other factors. If your females are very large with enlongated abdomens then they may be past their reproductive age. They still make fine feeders but are a no-go for breeding.
