I just received my female crested gecko (I just love her!) but I'm having a problem with her eating. The first day I put in some babyfood and she chowed it right down. So the next time she stopped eating it. She is shedding right now. What do I do?!!!!! She has plenty of water and good surrounds. I'm new at this so I could use some advise.

Thanks,
Allen

P.S. I will post pics when things are more settled. My sweet whippet was found drown in a neighbor's pool and we are a bit lost right now.

If she's shedding, just let her finish? I'm not sure what the problem is, most animals are too busy to eat when doing this sort of thing. :)

I have had mine for about 2 years, and have never seen her eat....just because you don't see doesn't mean it is not happening....

just give her a bit of time and maybe spray her a little to aid with the molt. she prolly needs a bit of aclimation time and since she ate the day you got her she is probably ok.

sorry to hear about your whippet:( I have had several whippetts throughout my lifetime and they are the greatest dogs. Do your neighbors not have a fence, or was your whippet a jumper as so many are? Anyhow, sorry to hear about your loss:(

She wasn't a jumper. We believe the neighbor left his pool gate open. What if that had been a child!! Thanks for the kind words.

Cresteds are hard to kill, i have about 30. You need to back over them with the car, and then some still survive. Try different food, maybe it was brought up on the gecko mix they sell.

I'm really sorry about your whippet.

Make sure the humidity is up for the shedding. Spay the enclosure a bit too. If she is young, she should have some crickets. T-rex makes a good powdered crested gecko diet--check it out. Cresteds eat their shed, her belly might just be full from that. Don't worry about her for a few days.

What is the seed mix and T-rex formula the two of you spoke of? Where can I get some?

T-Rex makes the Crested Gecko Diet which is a powdered mix that you add a touch of water to until it's the consistency of baby food. It's very nutritious for them, and is a complete diet on its own. You really don't need to supplement it. I do toss a few gut-loaded crickets in for mine once a week, just to mix it up a little, but even thats unneccessary with the powdered diet. You should be able to get it at any PetSmart or Petco or even your little local pet shop.

I'm dreadfully sorry to hear about your whippet. I had two myself; I know the kind of love those blanket burrowers can give. My thoughts are with you.
Good luck!

Thank you very much for your thoughts and concerns. She was greatly loved and had the run on the house. She never barked once. She would just sit and stare at you with those huge eyes if she had to go out. If she wanted your attention she would just come up and touch you with her nose once or twice to get your attention or to ask if she could hop in bed with you. It's going to be very hard for a very long time.

Thanks for the direction. Petco is 35 miles away and at $3 gal I'll do the mail order. Would I be able to use this for my leopards along with their crix?

found it all online. Thanks!
