I found this little dood on the kitchen counter today, and they're so little, I can't work out what species it is. I can imagine they've only molted maybe two times, and their patterns are very unique. At the moment my best guess is maybe they're a wolf spood. If not, maybe a barn funnel weaver, furrow spider, or perhaps some kind of crab spider? Most spiders I've seen around the house are around an inch to an inch and a half, SUPER fast, black spiders of some kind. Any input is welcome as I don't know much about any spoods outside of jumpers, so sorry I don't know their scientific names yet! Thanks in advance. ^w^

It's some kind of crab spider. I've seen a similar one here in KY.

I read a nifty info bit on crab spiders, Thomisidae. They don't use the front forelegs to ambulate, all major body movement only uses the back four. The forelegs are partially used as sensors to orient the spider with it's immediate surroundings, and ever at the ready to give hugs. They just dot the surface augmenting their eyes with a unique spatial awareness. Essentially mobile eight legged bug traps.
A variation on this theme is found in sprassids, sometimes called giant crab spiders. the forelegs of these are used something like ski poles, adding acceleration from moving the legs laterally as a ski pole adds more speed to the skier as they move from in front to the sides. The only time the sparassid moves it's legs front to back is when they are prowling, moving relatively slowly as they negotiate terrain.

Y'all know if they'll eat ants? I have fruit fly and aphid traps, but haven't got anything yet, but there's loads of ants here.

I don't know, but ants are very defensive and are only on the menu of a few animals. Rather springtails and other small insects... Little flies...
