I'm having a hard time understanding exactly what you are saying except you want ot replace your live cricket food with roaches. I'm not sure what pet you are feeding them to, since that was ambiguous.
For suggestions:

List the pros and cons about switching and capatalize on the pros. Ie less stink, healthier stock, etc.

If that doesn't work, maybe work out a deal or bribe her with something she wants in order to get what you want.

For example offering to take on extra chores, etc. Other than that, you'll have to work on her, either that or if she is dead set in her mind you may have to accept that.

Perhaps you'll need to change how you care for your crickets like cleaning out their container more frequently, weeding out dead decomposing bodies, etc. Maybe they'll stink less. I haven't kept feeder crickets long enough to be a big problem, but I have kept field crickets in small quantities as temperary pets. They are messy eaters and popers.

I agree, there's no better defense than the truth. Try explaining to her all the benefits and tell her you'll get all A's in school and help her clean around the house;) and she'll quickly agree. LOL I know i'd agree in a heartbeat if i had children and my son proposed that to me and i'd be impressed 'cause he smartly knows how to get something from me.

Explain the fact that there are X # (some one help with that #) of roach species in world and only a few are house hold pests. These are tropical roaches that wont infest your house. If one escapes its to cold for them to breed and they will they will just sit there being cold until they starve or dry up. The infestation thing was my wifes biggest concern, but she used to help me with my entomology collections in college. Point out that they cant get out(and make sure they don't). Ive had a few escapes because I'm not careful but always found them before her. Things like no flying, climbing, stinking are good arguments. Also let her see how popular they are and why, and that most of these people have moms or spouses.

bring to her attention that you will be keeping them in a sanitary environment, which you will clean every so often, that will be free of molding or rotting food and various other disease vectors which might be present in the while...
compare a sewer rat to a captive bred, well looked after, domestic rat... the former is really filthy, to be touched only with a ten foot pole, if that, the latter is... well not "clean", but on par with a dog. :D and i think after some very cursory research, she will find that the only bugs that can "infest" in "days" are super-short-lifecycle creatures like fruitflies...

First, let the adult crickets chirp. The noise will driver her crazy.

Second, leave the dead ones to stink, and let her smell the enclosure.

Then, show her several dubias and tell her they are beetles. They will not stink and they will not make any noise.

Worked for me.;)

There are plenty of websites that explain that out of the x number of species of roaches only x number are considered pests and live amoungst humans. They also explain how clean they are, constantly grooming themselves similar to the way cats do. Just do a google search, print it out and have her read. Then find pictures of dubias to show her how pretty they are.

asking for forgiveness is much better than asking for permission

my parents hated the idea of me offroading my jeep. i did it anway, they eventually forgave me.

another wierd thing, since getting my two species of roach ive been healthier. every time i prepare the food salads i munch on the carrots, watermelon, apples and cucumbers just to pass the time.

Roaches don't "infest within days."
They breed IF there are FOOD and WATER nearby.

And then somebody saw them.

Cats and dogs that eat garbage, run wild, and multiply become trouble too.
Good or bad management makes all the difference.

Please become a good manager.
Begin with your crickets.
Odors indicate a problem.

Wrong kind of food? Too much food?
Moisture buildup? Toxic mold? Fungal infection?
Cheap, overaged animals whose dead are unburied?

When you learn to spot problems...and learn to correct them...

You do better with animals.
And other people.

Good luck there!!!

Yours very truly,
Louise Esther Rothstein.

And when it shows up on the bank statement if he has a checking account or the bill arrives then whats he gonna do, he will just be in really deep doodoo if he does that. Lying is not a good way to go. You may lose everything as a result.

My mom really gets excited if I make a powerpoint presentation, showing the facts, pros and cons of what I want. She thinks powerpoint is high tec and impressive. It would be a great way to show your research without akwardly trying to persuade her on the top of your head.
