Recently, my jumping spider passed away, and while it's been a bit of a sad experience, I've been thinking about possibly using the enclosure for something new so it doesn't go to waste. It's a 20cm x 20cm x 20cm Exo Terra Nano enclosure—still in great condition and well-equipped.
That said, I'm not sure I want to get another jumping spider right now. It feels a bit too soon, almost like I'd just be replacing the one I had. So, here's my question:
Are there any species of tarantula that could live comfortably in a 20cm cube enclosure like this?

Avic avic but you might have to get a sling which won’t fit in this enclosure until it’s an juvy or sub adult. Another option is c versicolor.

20 cm cube is just under 8 inches. As ultim4spiderz mentioned, it would be too big for a sling. But it would be a great juvenile enclosure or adult enclosure for a smaller T or dwarf species. If you're looking for beginner friendly species there are several smaller new world species that could use that as an adult enclosure. It would allow plenty of substrate to give space for some burrowing, plus some room for webbing up top. D diamantinensis, N incei, Davis pentaloris, or pseudohaplopus species come to mind.

What qualities are you looking for in a tarantula, aside from fitting into the enclosure you mentioned?
To be honest, I don’t really mind what they're like whether they’re super aggressive or more laid-back. That said, I would really enjoy being able to watch and handle them, as long as they're comfortable with it. It’s not a dealbreaker if they can’t be handled, but it would definitely be a nice bonus.

Get an Avicularia or Caribena of some sort, juvie or sub adult, then step up to a larger enclosure and reuse that one for another new one and watch it spiral out of control.
Best regards in your newfound hobby.
Probably shouldn’t start with this but a juvie Psalmo would do well in that too

You could get a juvenile of a slow-growing species and eventually upgrade. Aphonopelma, Brachypelma, Grammostola, and Tlitlocatl are all genera that have some beautiful beginner species. A juvenile could be content in that enclosure for quite some time before you'd need to upgrade. Then of course, as HoneyOilers mentioned, you'd have an excuse to buy another spider! ;)

Get a dwarf species, I like this guy and he has a list of species you might like to look into:

N.incei or C.Elegens!! In fact most dwarf species would be fine in a tank that size :) or there are of course other true spiders like wandering spider or velvet spiders.

Aren't wandering spiders particularly venomous?

Possibly my two favourite arboreal species. NW for sure. Love my P. Victori 100% worth spending more to get a female
Only if op is ready for the speed and possible defensiveness. I’m Not sure if he’s a beginner or not ? I won’t get anymore because my basement is a open room and I don’t want to worry about it escaping. Plus my mom tossed all my pretzel jar enclosures.😞😢🕵️‍♀️

Well technically tarantulas are too but are not medically significantly to humans most of the time (excluding some old worlds). There are species of wandering spider whose venom is not dangerous to people like the Cupiennius salei (a species I own).

I was fortunate to find a female for a good price. The contrast of the black and the bright red, can't get any better. Same with the Irminia. Beasties got a big stamp of approval from me when he voted the P irminia as the most beautiful T in his collection.

Ultum dude, tell your mom to leave your pretzel jars alone. Tell her you're going to use them as flower planters.

That reminds me of when I use to smuggle slings into my room. I'd run off to run some "errands" dispose of the box in my trunk. Put the sling pots in my hoodie. Put them behind my older enclosures. Bam! Magic

Too late she won’t listen anyways. She won’t even buy anything that comes in those jars because she doesn’t want me getting anymore. And ℹ painstakingly had to remove the labels on all 13+ jars some of which I had for 20 years. I looked everywhere in the garage couldn’t find them. I can only sneak in what the pet shop sells she always home. A lot of slings would be noticed.

I hear you. Well like they say, "it isn't the quantity, it's the quality" I've had to part with some T's and it stinks, but being content with what ya have is good. It's nice to stop and smell the roses from time to time.
