I got a young corn snake last Sunday and i just now got it to eat. I does not seem to want to come out during the day, and i noticed that it came out when i turned the light off. I decided to try one last time to feed it and five minutes later i checked on it and it was feeding. Is it coming out at night because it does not feel secure? I have two hide boxes and its been in the cage for a few days. How should i try to work on encouraging it to feed during the day?

Cornsnakes are crepuscular, meaning active at dawn and dusk, and possibly nocturnal. So it is not unusual not to see them at all during the day. Also depending on how small it is and how settled in it has become, these also factor in how secure it feels and whether or not you see it at night as well. They also have distinct personalities my snow very calm and is out and about in the tank and my normal phase is more skittish and will hide more often then not; both are the same size. Though as it grows, chance are you will see it more. I really would try to get it to feed during they day seeing how they normally don't feed then. I feed mine after I had my dinner so that would be between 7-8 pm.

Also I feed my snakes outside of the enclosure, mainly to avoid them accidentally swallowing substrate.

Limbless tim my corn hides all the time and only comes out with the lights off. I tend to put a tupperware container with his food in in the viv to stop the swalowing of substatrate they can get distressed when moving home and sometimes won't eat for quite a while. He will settle into a routine and you will see his personality shine through!

My corn loves to be held. The moment I open the top, he comes out of his hollow log. Although i think its just he likes the excitment ;)
