i'm sure this has been asked before, but i can't seem to find the right thread to answer my question...

i once tried to breed crickets and i got as far as having the female lay eggs... but i have no means of incubating the eggs... would they hatch even without incubation?? how long do i have to wait??

from where i come from, crickets are hard to find... i have to commute through gut-wrenching traffic to acquire some... thats why i am considering breeding them...

keep the area wher e the eggs are humid. one key is having a dark area in the box you are breeding them in. then put things like egg cartons with moist dirt in them. if they dry out thjey will not hatch.

thanks for your reply man... let me just clarify your advice...

see, i placed some laying receptacles made of deli cups 1.5in high filled with moist substrate in their breeding box and this is where the female laid her eggs...

so i'm to keep these receptacles moist at all times in a dark area right??
is it ok if i don't place a heat source?? i mean, is it ok if i keep these eggs at room temp but moist enough?? would they hatch at these conditions??

Yea crickets should be easy. Females, moist sub (but not dripping wet) and 80 to 85 F. I don't have mine in the dark but I don't have a light over them either. Well that's how I'm getting them but I didn't read much about how to do it. I was getting them unintentionally so I decided ....might as well set a place to supplement store boughts. I don't totally rely on my own supply....just too lazy about it and I don't really have enough to justify raising all my own. I basically feed them lettuce and cat food. Hmmmm, I don't see why the eggs you're getting aren't hatching.

Oh, what kind are you trying to raise? I think that'd make a difference in what advice to take.

Keep the substrate moist but not soaked. Under room temperature they should hatch after 2 weeks.

Have them lay eggs in peat moss or potting soil, mist twice a day, and they should hatch. You could keep pieces of lettuce in their for extra humidity, just take them out before mold grows.

crickets that i buy from petshops are mixed... some are brown, some grey, some are big, some are small... maybe i'm crossbreeding them...

so i guesse they hatch even with on and off incubation... i guesse i'll keep that in mind...

thanx...

that also goes for all of you who posted and replied... i went across town to purchase a new batch of crickets to day... i intend on breeding the biggest and fatest pair...

don't get discouraged. it takes a few times of practice. kinda like baking a pie. once you get the right conditions though, its free crickets galore! sorry for not replying back to you sooner man. i hada hard time finding the thread again. anyways yea. crickets are pretty simple. I would put them in my garage in a huge box. have a board in the middle. the females would go down into the bottom with eggcartons filled with moint dirt and lay the eggs. after a while you never have really move that part. they crickets will come up for food and water. the inside of the box was always pretty humid and nasty. few hundred cricks will do that too you after a while.:)

ok... thanks a lot...

i just hope i get this right this time... jeepney fares here in my country keeps on increasing almost every month thanks to the rising price of oil in the world market... and it takes 2 rides to travel to the nearby pet store...

the crickets themselves are cheap but the its the commuting costs that's killing me... so breeding crickets could really help... especially since i'm REALLY hooked on archnids...

maybe i could just PM you the next time a problem comes...

tanks again...
