I think that i've developed a mild allergy for my B. dubia frass. everytime i open up their bin, to get a roach, i would start to sneez and have watery eyes. THis only happen once of every two times.

I developed a HORRIBLE allergy to hissers! It started out mild and now if I breath the frass my lungs plug up and I sound like I have bronchitis! Eyes water, nose running, coughing hacking.. its horrible.

If I hold one I get welts where they walk..

wow, that's horrible. I hope that mine won't get that bad. I am in the process of getting rid of most of them right now. I am only going to keep about 2 pairs left. The two most colorful ones. as for my allergy, it's just the dust of the frass that gets to me.

I started out very mild. Infact I had them for a few years before I started reacting to them. The frass is the worst by far, but it did start out as mild sneezing ;)

My daughter has a couple (pets only) I steer clear of them.

Wow!

Are you allergic to anything else? How do NW T's treat ya?

My B. dubia bin is starting to get dirty and will need cleaning. It is moist enough in their that it is not powdery as people tend to describe it though.

i am fine when the substrate is moist, but when it's dry enough that there's dust, then i would have a problem

If the frass is moist it doesnt bug me... just breathing the dust. And its ONLY hisser frass! All the other roaches dont phase me.

NW Ts... Avics kills me for weeks!! Brachys are pretty itchy for a day or so.. other than that no problem.

You know, I seriously think this evolved as a defense mechanism.

I have to use gloves with my blaberus hybrids...and that colony has just matured!

yea, somehow i believe so too.
They are one of the tuffest (toughest) and fasting growing feeder roaches out there, so i figure that somehow this is because they seem to know how to develop good survival mechanism to do so.
they are smart enough avoid being eaten by some tarantulas when they are not moving.
