Up here on the Olympic penninsula in WA state. There is a smallish sized lizard. I hope that some one here may be able to ID. They are a Steel-gray colored. They run up to 6". They do lose tails if they a not captured carefully They are found in a number of different locations. Gravel pits to the extreme high tide zone near thr Straights of Jaun De Fuca. The ones near the streights seem to get bigger by several inches and they are a more olive-green. Any ideas as to what they are would sure be helpful.

Could it be this? From Reptiles of BC by G.Clifford Carl, BC Provincial Museum series.

That looks very close. The light coloring/spotting isn't common with these. But that could be a localized pattern. I've caught them years ago and never foud any larger than about 7". I'm going to show this to a friend that has been collecting them. Thanks For the info..

I agree with the "attitude" statement!! They have a real temper when they are first caught/handled. My friend has been keeping 4 in a 20 gal. tank for almost three years now. They have calmed down a bit as he can hold them for a bit without the pitbull attitude showing through..
